My E320 CDI has Option Codes (VL & VR) for the Left and Right Front Axle Half Shafts.. Am I incorrectly assuming that this option is only for a 4matic vehicle?

There are no front half-shafts on my car. It is only a rear wheel drive car.

I will check the Option Codes on the Car.. I just purchased this e320 CDI a few weeks ago. I am not sure what repairs were declined but I am attaching the VMI for reference. I also received a 2" thick folder containing all the receipts for "everything " ever done to the car.. As I went through the folder, I created a Spread Sheet to gain a clearer picture of its history.

I have been driving my 1996 TDI Passat for the past 15 years, but I have been keeping my eye out for a clean CDI since 2014.. Maybe I was not looking in the right places but I am happy with this E320 CDI so far.

It is currently getting a transmission service and new Motor Mounts, including the transmission mount.

I have VIN decodes my CLS which has four-wheel drive and there are mentioned codes ... Thanks for the clarifying post.
