$650 for plugs on e320 from Indy?

So my car needed plugs badly to the pint of no start(127xxx miles in MN winter) brought it to an indy. They got it started but highly suggested new plugs to the tone of 650 bucks!(25 per plug Bosch double platinum and 350 for labor)I said thanks but no thanks and gave them the 450 for getting it going and went on my way. I orderd the plugs and boot puller tool. Had all the right tools and this job took me an hour tops with my 13yo son helping. Seems like more and more Indy’s are getting out of hand with their prices. This job cost me around 60 bucks in total. 40 for the plugs, 20 for he boot pulling tool saving me around 600 dollars from the indy

Diy will save you a ton of money providing you know what you're doing. Spending quality time w/ your son by getting him involved at the early age is a must. Perhaps you should split the $600 you've saved & give him half. I'm sure he'll appreciate & will be eager to help next time.

I love spending time & teaching my 2 sons that way. They're now fully grown & very good at maintaining & fixing cars. It's priceless!

Agreed, the labor prices are disgusting. Seems like mechanics think the offical Mercedes symbol is "$$$". I, too, order my own parts on RockAuto and call around on Craig's List for a backyard mechanic. I typically get my repairs done for 1/3 the price of a shop.

BTW, a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank all the time keeps my plugs a lot cleaner. I also add one oz. acetone per gallon of gas every 3,000 miles and run the engine @ 3,200 rpm on the highway for 30 minutes.

So... If the plugs were keeping the car from starting, how did the Indy get the car started without changing the plugs?

Welcome to MB ownership education.
I can only add that beside saving money on this job, the car left the shop without kinked hoses and with no bend covers, like it very likely would in professional shop.

I prefer NGK copper spark plugs. Bosch spark plug quality has been lacking as of late.

Yeah, I'm glad I got a good indy who doesn't care whether the car has Ford or Toyota or Mercedes on the hood, the price is basically by the job so when he wanted $50 to do front brakes and it was cold out, I said sure, rather throw him $50 than do it myself in the cold. He did it faster and nicer than I would have anyway.

I don't bother with any snake oils though, not needed in this age.
