Yellowish Bi-Xenon

I noticed that all HID xenon head lights on the Mercedes from 2000 and on are more yellowish comparing to pre-2000. Has anyone noticed the same thing? I know the color would get ¡§whiter¡¨ after many hours of use. But I have seen cars that are over a year old still emitting a more yellowish light comparing to the ones on my E430. That makes the HID light look like regular Halogen. So I just bought a pair of Philips Ultinon 6000k HID Bulbs to replace the factory ones on my one month old E500. I hope I¡¦ll like the new color. Has anyone had experience with the 6000K HID bulbs from Philips?

I was in the same predicament as you so I got myself a pair of Ultinons and I'm quite satisfied with it. I heard that you need to use your bulbs for a couple hundred hours until it color-shifts, which will give a more purplish tinge

6000K on the left & stock 4300K on the right

Or, try 8000k...

Even though a higher kelvin temperature would give you that nice bluish tint to the xenons there is practically no visibility on the road. Personally I'd rather have the best visibility on the road and the lower kelvin temperatures do that. I read somewhere that anything over 4300K will have less visibility.

Correct!!!! I Can't figure out why some folks put these 6000K lights in their cars and call it an "up-grade"... Sure, its up-grading the cool factor, but your "down grading" the visibility you paid that extra $$$ for in the first place....

I learn something new on this forum everyday. I didn't realize the relationship between Kelvin temperature and brightness (especially the fact that lumens decrease as the temperature increases). I ordered Zenons (what they call Litronic) on my Boxster four years ago and like them so much that I swore never to buy a car again without Zenons. As much as I like the Porsche Litronics, the MB's Bi-Zenons just blow them away. I flik on those high beams and it is almost like the sun came out.

It's not like you can't see anything w/ 6000K or 8000K. I think you may be whining a little bit. The visibility on the 6000K or 8000K isn't near as bad as you make it out to be.

It's an upgrade because it looks much better then stock Xenon and the visibility isn't that bad. Please don't over do it buddy.

Personally I think 6000 would be the highest i would go. I've seen bulbs go as high as 12,000 for purplish hue. Its absurd.

Whining??????.... What do I care what you or anyone else does to one of the best lighting systems on the market. If you think I am whinning because I stated my opinion and agreed with some technical facts given, then so be it...

I think I may have hit a nerve????? Sorry.....
