I have been gone for 2 months. My 2008 E350 was sitting in outside my house. I found out that my car battery is dead after i came back. The ignition switch was locked due to the dead battery. Then I replace it with a new battery, but the car cranks for one second and wont start. A warning came up on the Command console. Any advice???
The car does not charge. it responds to the key flob unlock once in every 5 minutes. Is there any chance that the car has a bad alternator voltage regulator?
There is a way to get a voltage reading on your dash by pressing/holding a few buttons. Can't remember the procedure but it is searchable online. Try and get a reading before the car starts and also while running. I believe normal voltage is above 12.6 volts. When running, you might get something in the 13s or 14s. This is just one easy way to check the voltage, you may need more specialized tools and diagnostics to determine your problem. But this may give you an idea of what might be happening.
Did you charge up the battery that you bought? It's not a very common battery so it may have been sitting on the shelves for a while. Put it on a battery charger or if you think it's dead, just take it back to the store and ask them to put it on a charger for you. Most auto parts stores that sell batteries will charge up a battery for you for free or you can pick up a cheap 2-8 amp charger in the $20-$30 range. Anyway to get the voltage, switch to the temperature display and with the engine off (easy in your case) hit the reset button 3 times to get the voltage display. Only does it when the engine is off. When you crank it, if the voltage drops a lot, it's probably a bad battery with a dead cell. You can also have the store give the battery a load test to make sure it's still good if they claim it's fully charged.
