05 CDI Phone Question
I ordered an '05 CDI in early May and my dealer in PA says the car is sitting at the port in Baltimore waiting for the phone to be installed. Does anyone know more about this or having the same delay? Also, do you know what Motorola phone they are installing? I thought I heard it's a V60 with a color screen but not sure if that's correct. Any info you have would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam

Me too! I've got an 05 500 wagon sitting there. Ordered the voice phone. I haven't heard what's holding up delivery. In fact, the computer print out on my car says "No Price On File" for the 051 option (Voice Phone). MBUSA today told me the price for voice phone on 05s is $1495 including voice, handset and cradle. Don't know what phone. Not sue I believe this price. Dealer is unable to confirm this info on his computer. That's all I've got. If you learn more about a release date and phone models, I'd love to hear.

Price is right. You provide the phone. On AT&T, Cingular, and T-Mobile you are good to go with a V600. On Verizon, you have a wait for a V710. I don't know the deal on Sprint.

My understanding that the price of $1995 is for VCS and includes phone. I know it's going to be Motorola but wasn't sure which model. I am a Verizon customer. How do you know the model phones in MB for each cell provider? Thanks for the info!

MB is getting out of the phone business. MB does not include the phone on the new system. That is good. The V600 is $280 at ATT, $200 at Cingular. The V710 should be in the same price range.

So are you guys saying that the Motorola V600 now works with the MB phone system? When did this happen? I have the v60 on my 04 E500. So can I get a retrofit cradle to make it work with the v600? What would I need to do?
Thanks in advance.

With the new phone system. Would it work with only a cradle change? Don't know. It may require a new control unit. Would probably use the existing voice response unit though. This is already spec'd for the C-class and should be for all '05 models.
Note that the phone for Verizon isn't shipping yet.

I'm not sure where you all are getting your information but I called MB customer service and was told that the Motorola V60S is the phone being used for '05 E320. My dealer told me there was a an issue with MB not using this phone with Verizon because Verizon network does not provide emergency 911 service in all areas. What a crock of *(#@! After talking to an MB tech specialists @ 800FORMERC directly, I found dealer is dead wrong. I'm disappointed in the quality of service and information put out by these dealers and MB.

Heh, heh. A problem is that Verizon is dragging their heals on releasing the V710. It will probably be available in August.
MB has been stingy in publishing info on the new phone. You can see what they posted for the C-class. Or talk to your dealer. He/she knows.

So, you are saying you don't want to reveal where you are getting your info? Are you an MB sales rep or dealer? If so, I can understand that you would not want to publicize your sources. But I wanted to get the skinny on what's causing the phone installation delay for my car. Thanks!

No great secret hear. My information is by crossreferencing information from dealers (more than one), vendors (MBUSA and Verizon), and trolling the Internet (this site, MBUSA, international sites, PhoneScoop (which was linked above), HowardsForums, and some others.
No secret, just legwork.
The heh heh is about V710 delivery. Verizon has been putting it off for months. In the last few weeks they have been showing it to their customer facing staffs (I talked with a rep on Tuesday who had a training session the day before). My guess is they are trying to ensure they have enough phones not to create a shortage and price-gouging secondary market when the phone is released. EVERYONE I know who is a Verizon customer and cell phone savy whats this phone.

I posted this elsewhere, and for what it's worth, MBUSA (800-ForMercedes) told me yesterday, the 05Es will be released next week, and dealers will be taking orders for V600s and V710s. I'm not sure I have a lot of confidence in this.
