MBUSA Correspondence: No More Rest Feature

MBUSA Correspondence: No More Rest Feature
Since I'm trying to finalize my CDI order, I asked for a written response. Here it is:
Thank you for your recent internet inquiry.
The REST feature will be available on the E320 CDI vehicles up until August production. After August, the REST feature will no longer be available. Based on Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC market research, that takes into account geographical, economic and historical factors, we have decide to no longer offer this feature.
Dang, it had to be all of those folks who responded to the referenced market research and said "Delete features, Delete features!!!!"

"Historical factors"? Say what? Maybe they mean that the 1879 Benz Wagen didn't have the rest feature, so they are commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Benz Wagen by deleting the rest feature. Sounds like 100% "economic" factors to me.

Who wrote that? Since it has been reported that E-classes at the dealers, June production, don't have the REST function, how would the CDI have it?

ive used the REST feature a couple of times, and i dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but it seems like it doesnt turn on the A/C, i guess because to save battery life, and the air that comes out doesnt smell like quality air, im kind of glad they got rid of this, they can hopefully focus thier attention on more important things, IMO

I thought rest was only to be used in cold weather to keep car warm. I never used it in hot weather as per dealer instruction. Any way, I use it often since we have cold winters(and springs, falls).

It is a cold weather features that uses residual heat in the water in the heater core and runs the fan at a low speed. Fan speed is not adjustable. It automatically turns off if battery voltage drops or the differential between the water temperature in the heater core and the outside air temp is too small.

Just called my dealer and he said my car should be built no later than July 31. I always worry about a car built right before the German's take their summer holidays.

Your correct. It doesn't turn on the AC; however, in warm weather if you turn it on it will continue to circulate air and cool the interior for 10-20 minutes and allow you to go shopping for a short period and not have the car heat up as fast. Remember to close off the sunroof if you do this. The AC compressor is operated by the engine but you still get some redidual cooling for a while. I used it yesterday when I went into a Costco for about 20 minutes and the outside temperature was near 90. Car was nice and cool when I returned.
It also works GREAT in cold weather to keep it warm for a while but is also nice to have in the hot summers. I'm glad I have it.

An Update...I saw an '05
So here is the evidence we have:
The brochure and MBUSA say the feature is gone for MY05 (REST, hot/cold wheel, redesigned center vent).
MBUSA says the feature will no longer be available after August, although that is unclear if it is August builds or August US deliveries.
Well, today I saw an MY05 in a dealer's lot. It was an E320 4Matic, and while I don't know the build date, it had the 326 $4720 Premium Package that disappeared on May 25.
Now it had the new center vent, which looks like a grill, similar to the C-class. The grill looked fine however the panel didn't seem to fit very well. The hot/cold thumb wheel was gone.
However the REST feature was still there. Remember the REST feature is a function of the control, and not the panel. So while all MY05s appear to have the new panel as of first production, the REST feature is later.
Now to find out if it is August build or August delivery!

And you have a '03 320? Never even tried it before? You're probably more than an average MB user (since you participate on this board). No wonder DC dropped this feature.....

i wouldnt be, ive never used it either
MB needs to take out all these things, another "wierd" thing they offer is when there is power to your car, and you turn on your hazards, they go on and off at a certain pace, but when you kill the power, the pace speeds up, im not sure if this is to save battery or what, but to me it serves as no purpose

The "rest" feature is pretty much wasted on drivers in warm climates like San Diego or Sacramento, not to mention options like heated seats and steering wheel. We tried the heated seat thing on our car a few times last January, when the temperature plunged all the way down to 35F/2C, but it was more out of curiousity than anything else. Using the heated seats when it isn't really cold can cause a sensation that is sort of, well, ... never mind.

Saw the same in a Uk dealership today.
