i believe it has to do with incompatibility of 4 wheel drive system and offset of rear wheels being different than fronts. exhaust system and ride height may also come into play............just a recollection from an earlier thread.

It doesn't make sense to do this.
When you buy the 4Matic they give you all seasons. With the Appearance and the AMG kit you get W or Z rated (fast rip up the road tires)..
I guess they could give you all seasons on the appearance and AMG but it really is two different types of buyers..

Why bother paying an insane price buying an AMG kit from the factory? You can just buy it aftermarket from vendor like me!

On the W211, the E55 is not available in 4Matic, but probably due to inability of the driveline to handle the power. However, the E500, E320, E240, etc. are all available in 4Matic, but none in combination with AMG styling. You can have one or the other.
This is probably due to some technical incompatibility more than anything (but probably not wheel offset or tire size). It could be something as simple as exhaust though, as previously mentioned in this thread.
It may be resolved at a later date.
So I don't believe it is two different kinds of buyers... 4Matic is a performance thing, too, and when on a W210 AMG car, was still fitted with tires suitable for speed.

Actually the AMG bodykit isn't available for all 4-M MB's. I can't tell you why I have to read the product info at the office. Fact is that the produczion plant off all 4-M MB's is at Austria and not in Germany. But I'll let you know on monday if I'm back at the office!

Like the A-class body panels are stamped at Sindelfingen, yet the car is made at Bremen.
I just checked the W210s and many of those were built at Graz, and they too were available with AMG styling.

everything is possible lol. But I am sure for more than 100% that the AMG styling isn't available for the W203 and W211 4-M (only 4-M) I just read the pruduct info 57-03 from MB (I'm working at one of the biggest MB dealer in Switzerland). Also in the price list there is a - for not available.
