Formula 1 and Mercedes..

I am a huge F1 fan and the Mercedes car this year has been awful. Two races ago they changed to a new car.. And 2nd race in, they got Pole Position and then they came in 2nd in the race (which is really 1st as Michael Schumaccer always wins..)...

Coming in 2nd is a BIG deal considering they were coming in 12th, 18th.. It was kinda pathetic.

Anyways.. I am excited about this weekends race and Mercedes.. Some of you guys should watch. It is kinda neat to see the engineering in your car (I know, I know) out there on a track.

Yeah, the Silverstone race was a good one. I'm normally cheering for Ferrari/Schumacher, but that's a no-brainer this season... certainly a part of me wanted Mercedes/Raikkonen to take this win since both car and driver did an awesome job. Hopefully Mercedes-McLaren have worked out all the bugs.

Yes, I have been very disapointed in the lack of performance in the McClaren car this year. There seem to be some vary basic issues that are just now being addressed with the design and execution of the chassis as well as the engine. It seems that Renault has decided that the image of France will be raised if they can win. They have certainly been the only team to keep Ferrari honest. The Williams-BMW team seems to have suffered some of the same ailements as McClaren which is sad.

I love F1!! I have routed for BMW/Mercedes and Honda as I have or currently own those marks. Nice to see Mercedes, especially Kimi do well last week. This week should be good as well . Germany is home to drivers and teams, looking forward to who has bragging rights on the home turf.

Finally a victory for McLaren-Mercedes and Kimi Räikkönen in Belgium last Sunday... an eventful race would be an understatement!

Check out The Economist (August 28-September 3 issue) if you're interested in the financial/legal side of F1. What a hairball ....

Finally McLaren have decided to use the CDI diesel engine What a good race.

Sadly Ross Braun has a 'track record' of somehow circumventing rules. His very latest concerns fuel. Formula 1 has always insisted that cars must use readily available fuel, but Ferrari has a special fuel produced solely for their use????

Am I off topic or what, I will not go into Sauber (or Ferrari's 3 and 4) or Team orders Grrrrr

I'll shut up now before I get into barge boards.

Regards to all Formula 1 lovers and World GP Motor Bikes

Speaking of F1, does anyone think that MB has anything to lose if the rules switch the engines from V10 to V8? I'm hoping it stays as a V10 instead of V8.

I was under the impression that the recommendation for next year is:

****Tyres will be limited to two sets per driver per weekend, with one set for Friday and Saturday practice and the other for qualifying and the race - meaning a tyre will have to last for at least 350km rather than 80 at present.

By making engines last for two races power will be reduced.

The FIA said that in 2006 a 2.4 litre V8 engine would replace the current three litre V10 units.

Teams that cannot obtain a 2.4 litre engine will be allowed to use the old one with power restricted by a rev limiter.*******

I realise that things are very flexible at present and my observations may well have been superceded.

My personal thoughts are to use conventional disc brakes and perhaps narrower, slick tyres. The braking distances of an F1 car are quite simply stunning and ovedrtaking under braking has all but been eliminated.

The funny thing is they are thinking of changing the engine to save costs.. But now they have to go and develop and test a V8.. What are they thinking. 2 races per engine will also drive up costs.

I think a lot these will be scrapped right before they are to be put into place.

What they should also do is standardize the tires so there is no advantage between the two competitors. Whether that means getting rid of one company or just building them to a certain specification is unknown. But ever since the tire war between Michelin and Bridgestone started, the lap times have dropped dramatically.

Also start using a weight penalty for winners. I forget which race series uses this (IMSA?) but it creates almost equal competition for all the racers.

No they can't do that..

This is what makes F1 great. The best team wins. The competiton in turn makes for better products for us consumers (eventually).

If they make everything a certain spec then it might as well be Cart.

I love the technical aspect of F1. It is the future of automobile technology. However that being said, what I find bothersome is that the top teams (actually only Ferrari right now) are dominating the series. It would be great to see some of the smaller teams win once in awhile. I think it would make for a more competitive series. I think Bernie should invert the tv money prize and give the last place teams the most amount of money and so on. The top teams obviously do not need that extra cash since their deep pocketed sponsors should be able to pitch in.

In theory I agree with this point, BUT, at present World Super bikes are contractedto using one manufacturer and it has taken away a lot of competition. British Super bikes still have a choice of tyre maker and the bikes are faster!!!!!

Sadly in Formula 1 the playing field is more like a hill, Bridgestone test and develop solely with one team (Ferrari), and any other user must accept the tyre with those conditions, whereas Michelin develops a tyre for Formula 1 teams.

Formula 1 has outlawed Team orders, yet Michael Schumacher's contract of employment insists on just the opposite??????
