Diesel Sound in 5.0L V8
From what I understand, the engine "ticking" problem is the same as the "diesel" sound I hear in the 5.0L engine. I have a CLK500 and I notice this sound at low RPMs as well as a slight body shudder as the engine runs. It's quite odd. If in fact the "ticking" problem = "diesel"-like sound, then should the motor mounts fix apply to the CLKs as well? From what I can gather, the problem lies in the way the 5.0L engines were mounted to the new E and CLK 500s and not the 320s. Is this correct and should I go to a dealer? Thanks!

So you think I should go to a dealer? I haven't heard anything about motor mounts with the CLK yet, but the problem seems to be one and the same between the E500 and CLK500. I'm hesitant because my dealer already said *that sound is normal*. Also, should I just tell him I've heard about the motor mount fix with the E500 and the same problem is happening with my CLK. Thanks
P.S. Sorry for posting this in the E forum, but I thought I would get more answers here because of the volume of talk about the motor mounts.

Diesel Sound
I have a C36 and I have a similar noise (view thread) the dealer suggested the camshaft adjuster assembly. I have been using 94 Octane and it has made a little difference and the next thing is to use Lucas Oil Stabilizer.

2003 E-500
Open your hood with the engine running in Park and have someone inside the car tap the accelerator. If you note an obvious "roll" in the engine when the accelerator is tapped, you probably have the soft motor mounts that lead to the ticking problem. Replacement of the mounts will result in almost no "roll" when you tap the accelerator. I had the mounts replaced on two of my E-500's soon after purchase of each and problem went away in both. It's a simple fix covered by a TSB for the E-500 but no sure about the CLK.
