Granite grey might be interesting. Was that around in 04'?

Yes, it was available in '04. For the most part, I think that it is very attractive. However, it changes color with the light as well as the angle you see it from. It sometimes takes on an olive tone that I do not find appealing. Because of the angle differences, some body panels (ie hood vs vertical aspects of the fender) look to be a different color while in the same light. It's one of those colors that you need to see to determine if you like it.

It's the changes in color depending on the light that I find appealing. Although, at times, there appears to be some green in it, I wouldn't call it olive but maybe that's just me. I see more of a blue quite often or just a medium grey. When he showed it to me, my salesman called it a chameleon. Granite grey is a good name for it because there are flecks of different color in granite stone and the color of the stone seems to change depending on the light also. I get a lot of compliments on the color and you definitely do not see very many of them.

I didn't see anything new. The comfort package is gone (drive dynamic seats, ventilated & heated seats) as well as solar panels. I didn't see Distronic mentioned in the "build your own" list of options but it is still listed on the Specifications tab.

I just tried to configure a 2005 E320 Wagon and when I click on the Appearance Pkg or any option for that matter, the C230 Kompressor comes up. I really try and be nice to MBUSA but this is ludicrous! Can't they hire a web designer who can get it right the first time!

Change your browser's settings so that it will accept cookies from the MB site. That should fix it.

We picked up a 05 E320 gasoline in Granite Grey this weekend. We are very very happy with our choice as we received quite a few compliments driving home. We opted for Comand II DVD navigation, panoramic roof and heated seats. First thing I did was to check if there was an AUX connection in the glovebox for my Ipod and there it was in all it's little glory ;-) If you guys want to see some pics please let me know how to post them or if someone would be nice enough to post for me.

BTW our 05 had the REST feature but still I don't know what is used for ;-(

Talking about missing packages, no designo!

No standalone sunroof or heated steering wheel. No Distronic. No solar cooling.

And of course no charcoal filter, no hot/cold thumbwheel, no mirror mounted puddle lights, no trunk valet lock.

Canon just introduced the XL2 camcorder. Maybe they got together with MB on how to not include features!

no one else in the industry is de-contenting like this, most are going the other way. the nature of any manufactured product is that component costs are falling, electronics prices are falling - content can increase without an increase in price.

To post the pictures just click on reply, scroll down to Attach Files and click on Manage Attachments. When the new screen opens, click on the Browse button and it will open your files, go to the image you want to attach and highlight it, click on Upload and it will upload the file. Go back to the Reply page and add any text and click on Submit Reply. Your picture should be included in your reply. If you have a problem email me and I will be happy to post some for you.

for example, a loaded 60K(USD) german car on 10/25/2002, if you want to buy the same specifications now, it should cost 76373 USD on 7/19/2004. (I think it is fair for mbusa to maintain the current price for a decontenting 05 w211; but mbusa should provide all options for US customers to build loaded cars.)

I just looked at the option packages and lots of stuff gone. I can't believe distronic is gone of all features. Solar Panel Gone! Heated Steering Gone! What's next?

What is the difference between the pricing on the Hands Free? On the Options screen its $1495 or $925 and then on the Accessories screen its $480.

Designo is alive and well, at least in the 2005 "E" class brochure that I just acquired this afternoon!
Designo is also listed in the stand alone E-320 CDI brochure that I've had for several weeks.

Designo is not listed for the "E" class on the MBZ.com website however.
But the salesman was looking at the ordering papers for the 2005 E classes, and said it was available.

No distronic is correct except for the E-55.
It is still available as listed in the 2005 "S" class brochure. Makes no sense does it?

I want it, and would have gladly opted for it! Got to be a high profit item, doesn't it?

And why do away with the solar cooling panel? Troubles with it, or too expensive? Goes hand in hand with the panorama roof and should be included in the package, and not a seperate option!

Designo should be avaliable on the 2005, according to a representative of MB I talked to this afternoon (1-800-FOR-MERCEDES). I explained to her that I am a bit concerned that the option disappeared on the website although my dealer told me he could order it last week for my 2005 E55 and it would still appear on his STAR-Configurator. The lady told me that they would still be working on updating their website.

Sometimes I think that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is, or should be doing.

At least with your E-55, you can get the distronic cruise control, yours being the only E model that has that option listed as being available. Why they discontinued that option on the other E models is beyond me!

I think the order rate for Distronic must have been very low, since it is such an expensive option that most of us will not be able to fully utilize in our sub-URBAN environments, and in the more laid back areas, just setting cruise control should do it. But, I agree that it should be an available option. Other manufacturers that have the same option supply it at a much cheaper price, or is typically included in a bigger package.
