What wheel setup are you running

2009 E550 here and drove through a pothole when leaving the mall and 2 tires blew, requiring me to have the car towed home. Long story short, my shop checked out the wheels said that 2 of 4 wheels were bent, therefore it would shake if I tried to drive fast. I am now looking for a new set of used/new wheels and was wondering what wheel setups you're running?

I currently have the AMG rims for the E class (not the 63 rims though). Here are my specs
Front Wheels: 8.5Jx18 Offset = 38 (p/n B66031462 - A2114016602)
Rear Wheels: 9Jx18 Offset = 39 (p/n B66031463 - A2114016702)

Get 16" wheels off an E320 or E350 and never worry about potholes again. Keep one of the 18" wheels as a full size spare.

i have those 16" and i hate them because i can't corner for **** with them.

then again it's an E320 so i guess it wasn't made to corner hard.

the sidewall brings tears to my eyes sometimes

Weird, I've done 2 autoX in my E320 wagon on 16" wheels and Michelins. It didn't have any trouble cornering. Then again my suspension isn't worn out. It had 17" wheels with 245 tires when I bought it but they runined the ride quality. To each his own.

i wouldn't say "trouble". i just can take turns at over 80KM/H (say i'm merging on to the freeway on one of those 'loops' that come from an overpass) on my honda. it's a bit different with this boat of a vehicle.

it probably is my tires, but i've just been given the vehicle so i'm in the process of fixing/adding things one by one.

right now i'm nearly happy with the interior just need to finish up the speakers. maybe do XM/SIRIUS to complete the amenities.

my suspension is perfectly fine. i am pretty sure it's just the mediocre tires. 4matic does a lot of the work so even mediocre tires perform well up here (or have in my experience so far).

These came standard with my 2007 MY E 500 (in the US: 550) 4matic:

https://www.roadreadywheels.com/prod...inum-wheel-rim

Love the style, but my Jaguar S-Type Sport (17 inch rims) offers more comfort, even without air suspension...

If you don't want to bent any more wheels, go smaller.

Mine is AMG st3new 18*8.5 off38 and 9.0 off39 with 245/40/18 tires both front and rear. Can't go any smaller due to the e55 brake set. Love the stopping power on the brake.

I run the regular 10 spoke 18" wheel. Those AMG rims are a bit more expensive on eBay. The local shop around here will bend them back for $115 a wheel. If they're bent, I'd just get them bent back. Did that to a couple wheels lately. I found refurb OEM wheels for around $150 and one of those got bent and couldn't find them the 2nd time so I ended up with replicas and so far those haven't bent yet. Might just be a matter of time. I actually searched on Yelp to find the company that fixed rims. If they're cracked, they need to be welded and then bent back depending on how bad it is. One of mine was cracked and I think it was going to be over $150 to get it welded and bent back so it just made sense to get it replaced. My local Costco mounted, balanced and swapped tires and TPMS for $20 a tire but I had bought the tires there.

Winter/all season

I run my snow tires (hakka r2) in 225/50/17 on the stock wheels, and a set of all seasons (conti dws) 245/45/17 on the Konigs. The stock wheels are easier to clean, but I prefer the look of the darker wheels.

I agree. Sadly, they need 16's to ride right. I've got the factory sport package 17" 5 spoke wheels with an almost brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires and it handles great but it's so harsh on the crap streets here in Houston I would gladly trade them for a set of 16" wheels and tires in good condition. Seriously, anyone wanna trade? I would prefer those 7 spoke 16's that came on the later model Bluetecs.

W220 and W140 16" wheels also fit. All others don't. I think the 16" wheels look great with spacers and lowered.

I had actually thought about picking up a set of 16" R129 Gullideckel wheels and having the lug holes bored out, but I'm not sure I would ever have peace of mind driving around like that unless I found a shop that could guarantee their work. Which 16" wheels do you have tjts1? Any pics?

When I bought the e320 it came with these chromed 17" wheels and some garbage "Mirada?" tires. I don't like chrome wheels.

Eventually found some stock 16" E320 wheels with nearly new Michelins on CL. Ride quality and noise improved a lot. I paid $150 for the set and sold off the chrome 17" to some guy that was really excited about chrome lol.

I installed th 16" wheels with 20mm spacers. The tires are 215/55R16 so 30mm narrower than the 17".

I also have a set of W140 16" wheels with Bridgestone blizzaks snow tires 215/55R16. I've used these on both the E320 and C320 whenever we go up to the mountains. They're fantastic on snow and ice but noisy at freeway speed. No spacers to leave clearance for chains if required.

Yes you can drill out other M12 wheels to M14. I've done it on my full size spare, it works but I wouldn't recommend it.

I've got the same wheels as you had, minus the chrome. I like the look of them, just not the ride. Those W140 wheels look pretty sick! I love the "classic" Mercedes look. Very nice!

I forgot to mention one of the 4 chrome 17" wheels was oval shaped on the inside edge. Tire shop discovered it when I was having them re balanced. I told the guy I sold the wheels to but he didn't care. He really wanted chrome.

I can get on board with this. I went from factory 18's to 19's and the ride is twice as bad. I like the way it looks though, so they are staying.

So I found a really nice set of 4 chrome 16x8 ET34 Gullideckel wheels from an R129, came with the original tires from 1993 with plenty of tread left!! Of course those were way too old so I got a set of Pirelli Cinturato Stradas in 225/55/16 and in order to mount these wheels without permanently modifying either the wheels or the car I did a stud conversion with these: https://motorsporthardware.com/produ...14x1-5-12x1-5/ and the 17mm hex M12 lug nuts they sent with them. They would not look very good with the lug holes visible, but luckily the wheels came with some (apparently aftermarket, and rare) center caps that cover the lug holes. At first I did not like them so I installed them on only one side but they grew on me quickly. Gives the car a really neat classic look. Oh and it rides like an old school Cadillac on a cloud of marshmallows but still handles very well, at least as well as I need a daily driver to handle. Overall I am very satisfied.

One thing I've noticed is these new tires are very sensitive to pressure compared to the 17" Pilot Sports I had before. When I first got them they had 35 psi all around and rode almost as firm as the Michelins. I adjusted the pressures to match the pressures in the inside of the gas filler (29 psi front / 33 psi rear) and they felt floaty and disconnected with quite a bit of understeer. Surprisingly, they also felt somewhat harsh, especially over big cracks. I then went to 32 psi all around and they handle great! Car feels light and nimble, and glides over all but the worst road imperfections so smoothly it plays tricks on my mind! Like I know I saw that crack, but I didn't hear or feel it at all! Just hope I don't constantly have to fiddle with the pressures in these to keep them right at 32 psi because the temperatures change pretty rapidly down here in Houston.
