Break-in period is finally over - at last
Break-in period is finally over on my E500. Had the opportunity to push the vehicle this evening out on some pretty empty highway. My unscientifc 0-60mph time was right at 6.0 seconds. My unscientific 0-100mph time was 13.4 seconds. Given the nature of my timing of the start and stop, I could be off by up to .5 seconds either direction.
Speed limiter came on at about 133mph, but I still made it to 135mph. The car was rock solid at 135mph. Hadn't driven that fast in a while and forgot how fast the telephone poles fly by at that speed.
Noticed that running with ESP off improves performance for the acceleration test. Noticed the temperature went up a couple of bars briefly and came back down after punching it hard for a while, is this normal?
The car felt great. This test confirms (not surprisingly) what other people have said. The car's quick, fast and fun to drive. To bad the speed limit off the interstate here is 55.

I'd say its not un-reasonable for the temp to go up a few clicks when putting the car through it paces....And you reported it returned to normal when you finished your fun, so I say all is well. I had ride up to 130 and will agree with you how solid the car feels at speed. I've never floored my car with esp off before, looks like I'm on a mission....

It may have been simply a difference in the timing of the runs, but without ESP it seemed .5 seconds faster to 60 and 100. I didn't hardly spin the tires with ESP on. Without ESP I left marks. Perhaps I was just a little more comfortable after a couple of attempts.

it's pretty standard across all cars that if equiped with traction control, turning it off will produce the quickest accleration times.
unless of course you have the neat smgII eurospec tranny in the m3 that uses traction control to produce the quickest drag launch.

So have any of you hot rod's done your own unscientific or scientific timings on your vehicles, and if so what kind of times did you see?

Thanks Rad, it's easy with the E500, it makes for great pictures.
I had a composition with the BMW in it, but hey, it's a Mercedes forum.
