Squeaking noise coming from the wheels while driving but not under braking?

Hello everyone,

I noticed a squeaking noise coming from one or more of the wheels that increases in sound the faster I get. I tried pressing the brake an the gas at the same time and it goes away then. The car is a 2003 E500. Could anyone guess as to what it could be or has it happened to somebody before? Thanks for all your response. Have a great day!

I'd go to service and let serviceman check it.

Had the same problem. Can't describe the problem exactly the way it was told to me but it has to do with a spring and a brake pad backing plate. A loose spring is what causes the squeaking noise. The dealer replaced the spring and all is well now.

From the description, it is obviously something involved with the brakes. I would laso have to say a spring clip on the backing plate or a lose caliper bushing (both of which are loose until you apply pressure on the brakes). Please let us know what you find the cause to be.

You guys were right!

I had the car checked yesterday and the dealer did indeed replace a spring between the brake discs, which rubbed against the wheel. Apparently these parts were defective in the first series and have been replaced with new, improved ones in the meantime.

Thanks for the update, glad to see you were able to get everything fixed at the dealer.

I just picked up my 2003 E500 from the dealer today with the same complaint. it was the second time it was in for the same squeal. both times they replaced the spring clips. they were rubbing on the rotor.

I'm glad to hear others have the same problem and mine is not unique.

PS the dealer says it is an easy fix (under warranty).

Just had the same thing. I couldn't hear it from inside the car, but other people were telling me my car sounded funny.

With the windows down I could hear an annoying squeek/squeal that was worst at low speed. It stopped if I applied the brakes.

It was a loose anti-rattle spring. The service guy thought that it had been hit by a stone and knocked out of position, so that it dragged on the rotor. There was no damage and he repositioned it.

Kind of ironic that the noise was caused by a part designed to avoid noise from the brakes!!
