Weird sound from either the inside or trunk of my car...

Has anyone heard a weird sound, that I can only describe as an electronic whistle, very short in duration while driving? I have an 04 E500 w/ 3,200 miles. It doesn't happen often, maybe once every two weeks or something. It did happen once when the car was parked in my garage after I had opened the drivers door and had it open for a couple of minutes. Only this time the sound was a repeated on/off whistle almost like an alarm of some sort. It seemed to be eminating from the trunk.

If you have Command it could be the CD Player in the trunk spinning up.

Good to see that I'm not the only one...

Although it looks like it has something to do with the air pipe controlling the locks??

Are you sure the w211's STILL use air pressure (how quaint) to lock & unlock instead of electric solonoids? I know the 210's used air.

I am 100% certain they are on my estate car. I heard the noise, saw the kinked pipe. The technician re-sited the pipe and for the last three months NO NOISE.

The 211 central locking system is certainly extremely quiet, so perhaps this might explain why they persist with the pnuematice system.

John
