E55 coilovers

I’ve searched the threads with no results. Looking for recommendations, experience, etc about switching to coilovers for my 2005 E55. I’m getting tired of messing with the airmatic.

Find a coil spring E320 or E350 sport and swap the parts over.

I was thinking something more adjustable. I’d like to lower it a bit.

Check the W211 AMG forum. A ton of members have put BC racing coilovers on their cars and I'm sure by now there are other brands (KW, etc) who make a set for the E55.

Stock factory coil overs are adjustable.

Does anyone have any experience in adjusting OE w211 coilovers for the sport/standard suspension?
I.e. using the shorter shocks used for 950, 952, 486 codes, that are 1cm shorter than the 485(comfort) shock?

What springs are you using? And how low is the spring perch set?

For E320cdi you would be probably be using 211 321 04 04 which is 410mm in length and 12.8mm as the wire diameter.
But how low would you set the perch so that you will have maximum 1" between the wheel and the arc?
Maybe anyone could post some examples.

Also do you think the 4matic spring 211 321 05 04 would be a good idea?
It has 13.25mm as a wire diameter, same length, so it should be 30% more stiff (diameter ^4).

I found this,
https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...-e320-cdi.html
but he bought the 211 321 15 04 which is of the same wire but 40mm longer as in 445mm!
I wonder how low would it settle with the shorter 410mm version and using the lowest setting on the shock.

I am not sure on the eibach lowering spring kit, as think they tend to be too stiff.
I was targeting a 20-30% increase, not more. Another reason is that the 4matic ones i could pair them with the rear HD ones 15.5mm thick that also give an 30% stiffness increase so I am keeping the car's original front to back balance.
The rears can be cut to fit without problems as they are open end coils with not flattening.
What would be the options available?

Lowering to the OE stock sport ride height (20mm - 0.7" between the wheel and the arch) is enough for me!

Thank you!

how? I don’t know of any adjustability on stock springs...

OP GET COILOVERS. I have BC. If you go thru the trouble of replacing the air suspension, get something adjustable and worth your time. If springs are too short or long, that’s just what they are. COs can be adjusted after the fact. Do it

I am not sure on BC. Reviews are not that good IMO, one guy who tracks his M5 says that they fade, probably due to foaming.
Also they are not stiff enough at the hi end.
Others are too expensive.
I am thinking only of a B8, or a B12 kit but with softer springs a bit. At least i won;t be having any fading problems with them.

Unfortunately i made some calculations with different OE springs and their open size vs compress size a 15% stiffness increase would raise the wheel arch 30mms. I could adjust the spring perch but is already 3 clicks from the bottom, so in the end i will have +15mm increase in ride height. And 15% stiffness is a small increase. Cutting the coil is not an option as it is a flatten end type.
So i guess i will have to look for other coils, thicker and shorter.
Does someone have the wire diameter for the front Eibach pro kit spring from the B12 kit?

Rear springs can be cut to fit as they are open end and also they come into a variety of wire thicknesses from 14.3 to 15.5 which would be a 40% increase in stiffness.
That's more that enough spread. I don't like the rear non linear eibachs, it gives a weird sensation, at least it felt that way while in a W203 with HR suspension kit.
I also don't want to overdampen the car.

I don't have an AMG but basically i have the same chassis, 211, and discussion is kind of on topic, for me.
