Dvd Based Nav System

Does anyone have a pic on the new DVD based navigational systems (Comand II ?).

I know there was a picture posted that they said was the new DVD system but I am not sure if it was real or fake.

The pic had yellow around it. Was it the real deal?

It would be great to get as much real information about it and I hope MB passes Lexus, BMW and Infinity in technology with this new system.

Will it be available on the MY2003 E-Class, in North America?

The DVD based 'comand 2' will be availalbe in Toronto, in Autumn of 2002. Of course, my sales rep says they will be in training for the new S and the new e in late June, so we will know more at that time. I'll keep you guys posted!

I am in Vancouver, BC area and my dealer said Canadian production to start in July with first cars in Canada arriving late August.

He has been to Europe twice in the last 8 weeks for MB but has been unable to find much information about the new DVD nav system.

He drove a new E-class when he was at the factory, still don't know how a picture is available for the new system when a MB sales manager can't get any info and he was sitting in the factory where the cars are made!

I don't want to question anyones intentions, but that photo looks like the current system with a picture place over top.

It does not seem logical to me that a new DVD based system will look identical to the old system except for a larger screen, it would seem to me that there would be a variety of differences.

Talking Actually,

if you go to the official mercedes benz international site, and to the car configurator, it shows the new comand system to be the same as the above one, only it has a burl wood surrounding, so the picture is right. It also mentions that the availability is delayed.

Notice the buttons around the outside of the screen in the picture. This looks like the FMS on an aircraft for selecting data or lines in a menu. This would be a GREAT improvement. I often wondered why they did not use this interface long ago. If you ever use it you will find it very intuitive.
