crankshaft position sensor location?
i have an 07 e63 with engine code p0335. I am lucky I made it home as light came on because it won't start now. Ive researched this forum and know general area on other model mercedes, but cant find location or pics for 07 e63. Assuming between firewall and engine block on drivers side? Do i have to remove anything other than intake to get to sensor? How difficult to replace on e63? i hear c55 guys say there was no room to remove and took forever to fix. I just had bicep tendon surgery on my dominant arm, so i'll be stuck doing this one handed (and maybe some assistance from my nonmechanical son). I would be grateful for any information. Thank You

That's not what i wanted to hear, but thanks for the help. I popped the hood today and couldn't find it. However, I didnt take anything apart. If I remove the intake is it visible from the top?

crankshaft position sensor
Ok, called some local shops for prices and some are saying that once new sensor is installed there is possibly a relearn procedure (something to do with the computer). So, they just recommend going to the dealer. I've never heard this. Shouldn't the check engine light shut off or reset itself once the part is replaced?

I've changed the crankshaft position sensor on my 2003 E500. It is a bit difficult to get to but doable even for someone like me who hadn't done it before. I put in some rags, tin foil, and a small magnetic parts tray below the bolt location to catch it if it fell while installing/uninstalling. IIRC, I used a short swivel ratchet extension to reach the bolt and put some tape inside the socket to get the bolt to "stick". I didn't see any mention of a relearn procedure when I did my research before attempting it. I didn't do any type of relearn process and noticed no ill-effects. It might be different depending on the year and model of your car.

Thanks for all the responses! I will attempt to do it myself. Did you use an aftermarket sensor from local parts store (like NGK) or did you order from dealer? I know some cars are picky when it comes to sensors.

Hey buddy, I just had my e500 die on me while driving. No CPS engine code though, still trying to diagnose my problem.
Does your car's start up look like
Im hoping its not the fuel pump or the spark plugs.. Basically car doesnt start sometimes it revs but doesnt sustain
Cheers

Nope, mine does not do that. Mine will crank, but not start and i had my check engine light scanned. Yours looks to be a different problem and I haven't seen that "battery protection" message on my car. A lot of guys on this forum know their stuff when it comes to these cars, but I'm not as knowledgeable. Sorry I couldn't help more.
