08 e350 4matic trans problems
Hi All. I have a 2008 E350 4matic. 130k miles. It's my wife's daily driver. She has said it's been acting up intermittently. She said she drives it to the store. Goes in the store for 45 minutes, then gets in the car to leave. When she backs out of the parking spot in reverse, and then puts it in drive, it doesn't engage right away. It has done it about once a week for the past month. She also stated it lunged forward a few times when pulling in to a parking spot.
The next problem she said it shifted hard a few times over the past 2 months, and seemed to "rev up" - I asked her how fast she was going and she said 65-70.
When I drive the car it shifts flawlessly , but that's only been once week for the past month just to check it out.... She did say it seems to be better in the sport setting than the comfort, but still does it.
Any advice? thanks.

Have you changed the transmission fluid? The easiest fix is if it's just the connector. It will do weird shifts like that when it's cold and then go away once it warms up.

I pulled the codes last month. I did get a code for the intake manifold (can't remember the number), but that was it. No check engine light. Is pulling the codes for the transmission any different?
The transmission was last serviced at 86k.

Yes it's the same, but you might not get any codes for the connector, it gets soaked so just change it. Had the same problem with mine and it went away after a fluid/connector change. Fluid change is every 39k so you're overdue. A case of 12 quarts of Shell ATF 134 can be bought at a Shell distributor directly, last time I got a case, it was about $60 which is cheaper than the dealer who usually wants $20+ per quart.

IMO I wouldn’t do a fluid change until you have read all trans codes.
go buy the Autel AP200M which does MB codes for $55.
if you have other issues you’re just flushing fluid down the drain.
Then change the fluid and replace potential failure parts - on 722.6 it’s really just the connector (and cleaning TCU if fluids made it’s way in there) or the conductor plate

I had the fluid changed and the connector replaced the first week of June. The car isn't driven every day. I would say 5 days a week max. My wife drives it to run errands around town... So today she said she backed out of the driveway (in reverse), put the car in drive, and it would not go forward. She said she looked at the dashboard, and it said the car was in Neutral (N) . She said she put it back in neutral then back in drive and it was fine, also tapped the brake a few times. So she's not certain what actually got it to engage into drive - .. She said this is what has been happening intermittently for months, it just hasn't done it lately, plus she doesn't drive it every day. So when it did it today she was sure to pay attention and take mental notes, and she was sure to look at the dash today which she had not done before.
