1ST wifey is OK sore and pissed but she is fine, literally walked away witha sore knee and some generl soreness form belts and airbag impact. Passenger was the same only with some swelling to her left knee. Both ckecked out at Hospital with painkillers and bedrest.
Things of note, the engine remained on even after the collision. The DPS officer actually drove the car off of the freeway, about 30Ft into the median. Drivers door opened freely, passenger door needed some force but opened. There was no intrusion whatsoever into the passenger compartment.
The estimate has not been done but they are guessing 20K before they tear it down. We are hoping to convince them to total it. If not we will be asking for about 15K in dimished value as we feel the car is unmarketable after this near catastrophic hit,

That's good that your wife and her passenger are okay!
You let someone else drive the car?!
Good luck getting the money! I've never been in that situation, but I'm sure insurance companies are very stingy!

Wow, just insane. I'm glad to hear that all inside were ok. The E sacrificed its life to save theirs. Any lesser car might not have been so capable.
Curious to know if you have any pictures of the interior airbag deployment.

Yes, she was northbound on 101 just north of the 60 approaching the Broadway underpass when the gentleman lost control in front of her and she broadsided him as he past perpendicular to the direction of travel in front of her.

It was a 2000 toyota 2wd compact pickup. She did have a drink in the holder at the time of the accident and it flew out of the holder during the collision.

Sorry to hear about the incident and fortunately only loss to the car mostly. Main thing is wife and passenger are OK. Car held up very well. I notice all the windows are down, is that something the Es do after impact strong enough to deply airbags?
