Removal of the entire Ash Tray Assembly

Anyone know how to remove the entire ash tray assembly? The ash tray itself, of course, pops out. However, I want to remove the cradle assembly that holds the ash tray (that includes the cigarette lighter and perhaps the door) from the car. I plan to wire my Ipod auto kit to the cigarette lighter without the charger and wiring hanging out. I can't figure this one out yet.

Nope, never figured this out, and haven't had too much time lately to look at it closely again.

Scorchie,

I'm not sure which model console it is. I have Nav with H/K system. The ash tray assembly is just below the CD changer drawer.

Atssytems,

That would be great. Thanks,

Well, I was wondering if you had:

1) sliding top armrest

2) split top armrest where the top section opens in two sections

3) non-split top where the whole top lifts up to get to the upper section (I don't think this was ever available in the US)

For #2, which is most common in the US:

1) open ashtray

2) lift up wooden trim piece at the front

3) after lifting trim piece up, depress shift lock release (black lever on shifter mechanism body) to move shifter into neutral (make sure parking brake is set, you always set your parking brake right?)

4) put something under trim piece so it doesn't scratch stuff

5) there are two tabs at front of ashtray that lock it down, pry those forward with a small screwdriver and lift front of ashtray

6) slide ashtray up and out

7) reverse to install

Thanks Scorchie,

I will definitely try that when I get the time. Also, I need to get a hold of you for the stealth sirius install perhaps near the end of November if you are available.

Thanks,
