2 CD's in a single CD slot

In an unconsious state, I inadvertantly put a CD into the single CD slot not knowing that there was a CD in there already. The dealer says that he wants to replace the entire CD/Command unit!

Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions as to how to get them out?

How much force did you use to get the second CD in? Replacing the unit sounds like madness. Why don't you ask them to dissemble the unit, and bring it to a radio or PC shop so that they can open the top cover of the CD drive. If nothing is actually destroyed inside, its fairly easy to take out the CD's. And even if the drive itself is beyond repair, the CD drive could be replaced. Shouldn't cost that much.

Don't replace the unit. See Oslo's post. Others have had this problem and resolved it without replacement. LOL

What about using a simple device like this?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I suggest that you have MB take the COMAND system out and then remove the cd player. After which it should be simple to open the top and push out the cd's. Aything that was assmbled can be disassembled....unless of course if it was made by aliens.
Replacing the entire unit is dealer BS.
I remember we tried and tried to eject a "stuck" disc in the CD player once, actually it was my wife. She told me that her CD wouldn't come out. I stuck everything and anything that could fit in the slot to try and pry the disc out. We finally gave up after about 4 days when we took it in to the dealership only to have them tell us that there was no CD in the drive. Apparently my wife forgot that she already ejected the disc.
Thanks for all the useful ideas. I just got the car back from the dealer to have the brake retainer clips replaced (again). After 4 days, they realized they don't have a part number for the new style retainer clips (the old ones squeaked when driving and were silent when braking). When they get the right part, they should pick up and repair.
Oslo: I didn't use that much force. It started to go in and stopped so I gave it a nudge and it went in on it's own. I am thinking of having the Comand disassembled. It should be easy to remove the discs.
a2gtinut: I am in Bergen County. I brought the car to Prestige in Paramus. Do you know of anyone in the area that can help?
Just wanted to tell everyone that I got the CD's out of the single slot of the Command unit. If anyone is in a similar situation, the way to get them out is:
1. Buy two 1 1/2 inch putty knives from the hardware store. Roughen up the last 1/2 inch of the blade with a file or grinding wheel. This will give it more grip on the smooth CD surface.
2. Press the eject button and place one of the blades under the CD. You can feel them spinning in the slot. Place the other blade so it goes above the CD. Make sure the roughened surfaces contact the CD. You will contact the CD's when the putty knife blades are into the unit about 2 inches.
3. Align the blades so they are on top of each other and the CD between them. Hold them together with a pair of pliers. you will feel resistance when pulling them out of the unit. Move the CD side to side while gently pulling it out. It will take a few tries before it comes out, but be patient.
I got the top one out without marring the unit. The lower CD ejected like it is supposed to.
Now my screen plays DVD's on the move with the 3-5-7 trick and setting the unit and keyboard to 211 ECE. My kids think it is the coolest thing!
Thanks everyone for your input. I was going to consider spartan's suggestion by visiting the local fire department. A small donation to the fireman's fund could buy the jaws of life for 30 minutes.
Can anyone explain the 3-5-7 trick? Would this apply to the COMMAND system in my '02 E55?
glojo - if this is an offer of employment, I have to research Torquay. My only views of the harbor are at night.
You can tell I am good at dentistry by the way I extracted the CDs from the small slot without damaging anything in the process.
That's good enough for me
A small town near here has had to close down the 'dentistry' (dentist) as there are no dentists available.
You have admirable cre 'dentials' and are well qualified in the art of extracting 'CDs'
See you soon???
