2004 E500 4-Matic I know I’ve read about this before, but I just can’t find it,
I don’t think it’s the fuel pump. I can hear it pumping up normally. Happened on the jackstands yesterday while I was blowing there engine compartment clean with the air hose. A little help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you scanned for codes? Any temporary/stored codes?

Not recently. I’m just about to change the conductor plate because of transmission issues. I’ve got lots and lots of codes. Trying to restore this old girl. It’s been sitting since Covid. Keyless go just stopped working too it seems. Says key not recognized. I plan to get to that later, unless it’s part of the same problem. ECU shutting it down because it can’t read the key or something.

All the best with the project.
i would replace key fob battery
Remove the keyless go push button, if any
Delete any single diagnostic code before start ( back / write done down perhaps)
Start the car for a few minutes
Rescan, review, continue with next step of the project
Good luck, enjoy the wrenching time

Thanks, I do kind of enjoy wrenching on these things. It’s more fun when you’re improving it, rather than trying to get it to stay running.

I don’t have another key. I got it to stay running somewhat yesterday. I’m just gonna take care of all the basic maintenance and everything that I know is wrong, and chalk this up to bad gas and a weak almost dead battery. New conductor plate is in. I’ll get some fresh gas and try it again tomorrow.
