Hi all,

I am trying to remove my rear shelf in order to access my rear sunshade which is stuck in the deployed/UP position.

I saw a pretty detailed thread about this and gave it a go this afternoon. Have just realised that my W211 might have a custom rear seat arrangement as it uses electronic latches to allow the rear seats to fold forward.

this is a bummer as all the resources I have seen so far regarding the rear shelf removal might not apply to my model.

If you see the photo attached, you will see two electronic latches fixed in place which prevent the rear shelf from being lifted up.

I also attached a photo from the back.

THE REAR DECK REMOVAL IS HARD ENOUGH BUT i CAN'T GET PAST REMOVING THE FRICKEN HEAD REST. i TRIED EVERYTHING THAT i SAW ON YOU TUBE. i MOVED THE CLIP i HELD THE SPRING AND IT AINT MOVING. iF i CAN GET THE HEAD REST TO RELEASE, THEN i CAN REPLACE THE SUB. cAN ANYONE HELP I'M STUCK WITH MY CAR IN PIECES AND 8 STRAIGHT HOURS DEALING WITH JUST THE HEAD RESTS.

I kept trying and the head rests would not come out, that little black pin would not release the head rests and if I managed to get one side then the other side would not release or the pin would raise up while I was doing the other side. I tried everything possible, I undid the springs , I tried different tools to get the pin to open, Finally I said F*&^% it and cut the deck with a box cutter knife then lifted the deck over the head rests which didn't really work either and cracked the deck .So I left it up sitting on the head rests which still wouldn't come out and I'm pretty sure I broke the head rest mechanism that will close the head rests and haver them fall down in the back position. Whoever the jackass is who designed and put these things in the car should be shot because that ******* never tried to take the head rests out. This could have been designed so much better and easier and a release button that could have been put on top like every other head rest ever made. This is why I hate the idiots who design parts with no forethought on how it can be removed or replaced if needed. I did get the subwoofer out after ripping and tearing and pulling and again the Subwoofer is not easily replaced because of the placement and the base that it fits in is not made for an aftermarket sub. Now I have to cut a hole in the metal plate of the rear deck just so the bottom of the sub can sit in the hole with the magnet sticking into my trunk which I don't care for either.. This is the worst experience ever and I still have every panel in the trunk removed and lost screws and now no place to mount the Amp so I will remove the spare tire permanently so I can mount the amp in the wheel well where the spare would go..
