Broken front spring, Konigstiger can you help?
2006 E320 CDI,
I was just doing 80mph came to a 30 zone and bang the front left spring broke, there is maybe an inch wheel well clearance if that. Extremely glad I was only doing 30 and on straight road when it broke.
My springs are marked 1 blue 3 white, with a search I came up with 2113211504, but FCP Euro says its not compatible and is for air suspension which I don’t have.
With the crappy roads around here I definitely don’t want to lose ground clearance. Are sports suspension springs shorter or beefier.
Thank you Konigstiger

It's just age, not that uncommon for them to snap. You probably need to post your vin in order to look it up properly. If you have crappy roads, you don't want the sports suspension, it's lowered an inch. So your fronts will be 1 inch lower than your rear and you will have less suspension travel to absorb the bumps. You can still get a knock off copy of the EPC/WIS on eBay for under $10, only goes up to 2020 but should still have all the correct part numbers for your car.

Your options are:
LESJOFORS 4056842
BILSTEIN 36226153 {2113211504, 36-226153} B3
DORMAN 926575 {2113211504, 926-575} - PAIR
The spring is under a lot of tension, so a good luck to anyone that's replacing this with a wall mounted spring compressor.

Post your vin to double check but that's probably the correct one as they do go by the markings on the spring. Not that expensive anymore, rockauto has the Bilstein for about $31 a spring. And as mentioned, these springs are under lots of tension, better make sure a pro with good tools does it. If you're doing the spring, you should do the struts while you're at it and make sure the clips on the replacement struts are set to the right height, otherwise if you use the default setting which is the highest, the car will sit way too high.

I do many springs/struts with those spring compressors, but I wouldn't touch these E class springs. If a spring has more than 4 loops, you are just looking for trouble.
As mentioned, it was really sketchy even with Branick wall mounted spring compressor. Good luck

yes dangerous, especially since the spring needs to be compressed 5 inches to get it squashed enough to get the top nut on. I think the safe ist way is NOT to use an impact gun, but a standard ratchet, safety glasses and I lay it on the floor with a doubled over bath towel on it while compressing. I count ratchet strokes, and also measure exposed threads on the tool to keep the spring centered.
