What is this?

I was checking bushings and found this hanging around the bottom of the spring coil and perch of the strut. It is very light weight maybe more foam than rubber.

I've been trying to diagnose suspension noise, not finding anything obvious except this. Would whatever this is deteriorating be my issue? I can't find any part number for this.

suspensions

suspension are the sturdiest parts of the car. Light foam is not rated for strength. That piece looks like a cushion for the spring coil bottom.

Searching for noise, have you checked these:
#1 ball joints
#2 sway bar bushings
#3 stab. links
#4 control arms

Perhaps this part
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...4aAqx1EALw_wcB

Notice the part fits the next generation W212, not listed for the W211

When you purchase a new coil spring, that isolator is glued onto the bottom of the spring, during the process of installing new springs recently, that part fell off. I already had Bilstein B6 series, replacement shocks and purchased a separate isolator, Which doesn’t fit that great but works, so I didn’t need that part you show.

I wish I could find a properly fitting bottom isolator for use with the Bilstein B6.

I checked the ball joints, and they all looked good. No cracks and visually looked good. Bushings all looked solid. I didn’t remove the under pan to see if the stabilizer had bad mounts.

My car just ate the serpentine belt so focusing on that first before returning to this.

simplicity

in all honesty, the suspension noises are mostly nagging from sturdy parts that are purposely built

Replace your suspension wear items when you get a chance, all together or one after the other, just like your serpentine belt, tensioner and idlers.

As an FYI based on experience, W211 lower ball joints can look good, be in spec, and still be noisy. The design changed from the W210 lowers. How many miles on your E320? 90k-110k is usually where they begin to squeak.

Good luck with that serpentine belt. Unless the belt is really old, a shredded one is usually caused by a bad pulley. Mine was a failed idler bearing.
