I have been trying to get to the oil level menu where you an get the exact quart readout of the oil level but it does not seem to be working. I have been keeping the trip odo reset button pressed but nothing happens. Car is an 03 E500. Can anyone help?

turn ur key to Position I and then rotate the menu to where it shows Temp.
Press reset 3 times and then turn ur key to Position II. You should hear a beep!

This method works on my E320 CDI/ C240 but not the E240.. kinda weird but oh well..

Hope this works for u!!

It's a page and a half worth in the manual. There are a few conditions that must be met under certain scenarios (eg: level ground, operating temp or not operating temp but 30 minute lapse). Then, ignition must be switched to position 2 and wait (may have to wait up to 5 minutes).

As you see, it is best to just read the manual for this.

The hidden menu is not listed in the manual.. The hidden one will show litres down to 0.1 amounts..

Hmm...OK. I didn't know that it wasn't listed in your manual. It is listed in my manual (2005).

So what is the procedure in the manual? I tried getting to the detailed menu on my E320 using the procedure above and it didn't work.

All I see is that it's OK.

This is the normal operation described in the manual but a post above is implying that you can get additional Info by using an undocumented procedure. If there is such a procedure, it doesn't work on my 2004 E320 (3/2004 build date).

Yes, the is the basic info.. (Thanks for scanning it though). What were are talking about is info that is down to 0.1 of a litre. What the manual mentions is down to 0.5 of a quart.

This is what you need to do:

1) TURN KEY TO 1

2) Make sure the Outside TEMP is on screen.

3) Press the TRIP ODO RESET button 3 TIMES - It will beep.

4) Turn the key to Position 2.

5) Then press the UP ARROW.

It will then show you the litres in your car to the 0.1 of a litre.

Doesn't work on my US Build (3/2004) E320. Maybe it's not on U.S. cars.

Getting to hidden menu

Hi guys,

maybe this will work:

Follow the steps above, but instead of pressing the reset button three times, hold it pressed for about 30 seconds until you hear a beep.

Found it.....6.7 qts

I can't say exactly how, I just fiddled with the menus for about 5 minutes.

I also found ESP dynamometer. Does the car have a built in dyno? That would be neat for testing mods.

BTW what is the maximum oil quantity for the 320 CDI (US in quarts)?

Thanks
Ken

8.5 quarts but I think Mercedes recommends using only 8 quarts on a refill to avoid overfilling.

Next time you are fiddling around please make a note of what you are doing

BTW, are you in the US?

The ESP thing is the reason you need to hit the up arrow as this comes up first..

OK, has anyone in the US been able to get this to work? I'm beginning to think it's not on US cars.

Mine too

Mine worked with pressing the reset button three times while being in the outside temperature display on a 2003 US E500.
