States that we can have DVD play for our 04 W211. But 1990 Euro is quite expensive.

A car & A truck
I think the "W211 E-Klasse" they mention is actually an Euro Spec E-class. AFAIK, this model has the DVD based HU. They're probably referring to a tool that disables the 5 mph limitation on these cars.
Most US spec 04 E-class do not have the "electronics" needed for dvd playback anyhow.

You can exchange your US unit for a Euro one for 1500.00 and be able to watch DVD in motion. Contact MbenzNL for the service.

Nah definetly not. This guys some foreigner in brooklyn who I've tried to deal with so many times. He has 2 parts which I really need and getting any answers from him so far has been like pulling teeth, he can barely respond to you in english. Also when I inquired about the euro comand units he had, he told me they werent coded for video in motion either. So there you go, you get what you pay for. Even if you had to send an extra few bucks somewhere else at least its already tv enabled in motion. I also remember someone saying if the units he's selling already took an upgrade, no way to downgrade them for dvd in motion; is this correct steve?

In order to disable TV DVD in motion on euro comands with the MP3 software one needs a modified stardiagnose...most ompanies in europe offer DVD in motion programming for 211s up to somewhen in 2004 when MP3 software became factory equipped.

As for the rear display you asked for before...I have 2 complete sets now and will be able to quote you a total price soon (need to borrow one of our customer's car here in cold Netherlands).

MBenzML,

I have 2005 US E500. It seems to me that 357 tricks is not going to work. So is there any other way to make "DVD in motion"? I really really need it. I thought about to pick up a Hummer and stick few TV screens there before I picked up the E500. But after I drove the E500, I fell in love and promise my kids that I will try my best to put the DVD in this E500. I really don't want to cut the leather headrest in the E class to do it. Don't mind to do that in the Hummer if I bought it. Please help.

Thanks.

Has anyone actually performed the swap from the U.S command to the Euro spec? Is it a simple plug and play? No need to take it to the dealer to program or activate it?

Yea the swap is a simple plug and play especially if you already had NAV. For the other guy who didnt want to cut his headrests, you can contact SAAV for the premade ones for our car. They look really really nice, and run around 1600.00. Those headrests have there own brain so you could connect any video sources to them. If you go with the Euro HU swap, the front will play DVD in motion and then you could either get a tv tuner and plug either a few rear monitors or some other video inputs into them. Or you could get the MB OEM rear display system. You can do a search, take a look at my car, I have most of the stuff in it. Steve posted pics last week of the rear E class entertainment display

Fazooley,

Please correct me if I am wrong. Since I have a US 05 and NAV, if I can get an Euro head unit (what year?) then it is a simple swap plug & play then I just follow those 357 tricks then I can have "DVD in MOTION". Am I right? If so, do you know where can I do this upgrade?

Thanks in million.

too many to list
After you do the swap, no tricks are needed of any kind. Just insert the DVD and enjoy!

Just ask your local dealer for DVD in motion!

Hello there, everybody!
I have been reading all these threads about DVD in motion for some time now, and I just don't get it... why don't you ask your local dealer/mechanic (who has the Star Diagnose software) to enable DVD in motion?
I live in Norway, and thanks to a tip from Oslo, I did that! I have a 2004 Wagon with TV tuner and it pissed me off that I had bought this COMAND and not being able to see DVD while driving. I asked my mechanic if he could enable this feature, and he said Yeah, sure!
He hooked his Laptop to my car, and 2 minutes later everything was fine! I now have TV, DVD in motion and MP3 (I installed the software BEFORE I had the in motion enabled!!)
I thanked him and gave him 50$ for the job!
So forget all this 3,5,7 stuff, and expensive stuff someone's selling on the net!

jomasa,

Same here. I start to read this before even I picked up my new 05 E500 last week. I thought I could hack it and make the "DVD in Motion" works. Make a long story first, the 2nd half of 04 and all 05 are differnet command unit than the Euro command. Therefore it simply won't able to make it to work. Before I have Dean in MbenzNL (S.F.) swap mine to euro one, I called every dealership and ask their service manager/techicians and they all said "No, they can't help..."

Conclusion is if you have 04+ W211 and if you want to make the head unit "DVD in Motion" works, you have to swap your unit to one of the Euro unit. Now I have all my ex-unit functions such as Nav, MP3, Radio, CD, 6-CD changer functions and most importatnly I have a "VIDEO" button, and when I press that the DVD will play and my kids love it so much.

Thanks!

You sound like me. I only listen to 1 local AM station while I drive. It is great reception and I don't think there is anything to do with the head unit. It is more to do with where you are and the antenna reception. Btw, Dean in MBenzNL told me that if I install one of the rear screen from console, I can have listen my AM/FM/CD/MP3 and my kids can watch DVD in the back seat using this euro head unit. Last, they offer a OEM MB Euro remote and your kids can play/forward/backward/stop whenever he likes it without asking you to do it all the time.

Thanks!

I'm glad it's working for you. I think I read on Steve's web site that the Euro Comand is set up for 9 khz increments instead of 10 which we have in the states. In that case I couldn't tune into 750 AM, the closest would be 747 AM. I am an AM talkradio junkie, and need perfect reception! Did they perhaps change the units?
