retrofitted OEM MB rear display

I instaled an original mercedes benz rear display in a W211 yesterday...

Most of the parts on the enter armrest need to be changed in order to fit the rear display and te bottomhalf of the storage compartment can not be used anylonger after the rear display is installed but the result is like it was installed from factory.
The rear display an only be controlled with the mercedes comand remote control and can dislay DVDs run by the comand headunit while the comand is in radio or audo mode...the DVD features of the comand headunit can be controlled with the remote through the rear screen without interfering with whatever the comand headunit is doing (radio, navigation or CD).
The rear display comes with 2 headphone jacks with separate volume controls. At the bottom of the screen is an additional set of RCA jacks to connect an external device like a playstation or something like that.

I attached some pictures of the instaled rear display...this display can not be connected to all comand units, it is only compatible with a few of the many available comand headunits. I have 3 more displays available, all in charcoal...mail me when interested: Steve@MBenzNL.com

What is the size of the display? Is it the same actual screen from the COMAND unit on its own, or an entirely new deal? Do you have access to the dual rear screen setup? Looks like almost the same screen. I cant find my pic of it..

You should ask these questions before saying "Sign me up!"

The screen is the same size. It is an entirely new deal (if I understand your meaning). It is an OEM rear screen, meaning it is intended to go where it goes.

The dual rear screen setup is an AMG custom thing that uses the same screens and mounts them to the back of the seat. The wiring for that setup is probably from the Maybach.

thanks for the clarification- I mean I can see the relative size, but just wanted to know some details. If the dual option isnt available, I'll probably go with this one. Too bad they dont have a larger option, although the picture quality is great.

yes...the W220 S-class had a rear screen that gets connected to the TV tuner...installed one of those in a W210 once...but don't really like the concept of those...not half as cool as the W211 ones...

MBenzML,

Do you have one that will fit the current 05? since the 05 they change the console to the slide down one? Also, do you have the head unit or anything that I can make it "DVD in motion" ?

Thanks,

I really like that set-up. I couldn't wait for the MB unit and a year ago fitted independant screens to the headrests

Always interesting to get feedback, but why "LOL"? Sure it does not have 4 postion climate but it has aircon.

I don't know what Bootleg seats are ? Is that the indentation for your knees?

No doubt you have the rear aircon in your CLK and so couldn't do without it I can understand that. We all like the options we have chosen, but I think it goes a bit far to LOL at those that don't. Or am I just being a bit sensative?

Apologies if I missed your point.

Marc

I have seen pics of your seats on the web here and there... what do the knobs on the inboard sides of the seats control? I haven't seen them on USA cars. Can you reach them from the sitting position?

Its OK.

The car pictures at the beginning of this link have them too - the one with the OEM DVD fitted. MbenzNL.

When they get turned it pushes in, or pushes back, a bolster in the small of your back. Just like postioning a cushion or whatever.

And yes you can reach back and adjust as you drive.

Are they just a European thing perhaps?

Marc
