Jocko, Thanks for posting. Yes I found it and I never would have found it without your post. I now need to check a mirror and make sure I can see my nose.
You have won a free lunch*. I'll play with it this weekend once I get a male/male mini-RCA cable. hikc, you get yourself all the way out here, I owe you a free lunch too, anywhere you want. Thanks for your responses as it kept me aksing the questions.
*Print out and have TC endorse. Redeemable at any fine dining establishment between 3200-3500 Buford Highway that does not take credit cards or reservations. If the restuarant serves food on a table with a table cloth this agreement and coupon is null and void. Lunch only during the week, and only water is allowed as a beverage. Tip not included. Valet parking is not offered in this section off town, so forget about it, and would also not be included anyway. Actually, we recommend a fee of $10 to the restaurant owner and ToyCollector so your car is there when you are done eating. Coupon issuer assumes no responsibility for food poisoning, or your personal safety
edit to add hikc into response in lieu of a triple post.

Sure Spartan, especially since you are a cheap date! I went to Radio Shack and got a male/male stereo cable and it works like a charm. Obviously audio signal only into the head unit, but I keep the iPod on the passenger seat so I can easily rewind/fwd/read the song info.

Whichever one is available (1 of 5)
Just go my iPod yesterday, and I purchased a male-male 1/8" (or called 3.5mm) stereo cable. Plugged my iPod and played through the AUX. Be care ful, it seems that you need to turn up the volume more when playing through the AUX port. When I switched from AUX to my radio, CD, or SAT, the volume was so loud from my AUX setting, it almost popped my ear. I am still playing around with the iPod to see if there are any settings to adjust so I will get the same volume level as my other music sources.
Other than the volume level issue, the iPod music sounds fantastic to my ears. I have about 160 songs loaded in it, mostly oldies, with some 90's music.

2004 S500 & 2011 Mini JCW
Use screen for viewing DVD Audio etc. on 2004 S500
Anyone know how to get the screen to show what's being played in DVD mode. My system will play DVD-A's, however navagation through the center display is the only way to navagate currently. Anyone have any ideas?

If you use the outlet on the docking station, no pre-amplifier is needed.

Thanks for the information. By tweeking around, I found that by turning 'Sound Check' on the iPod to OFF, the volume level improved drastically, so I can switch between AUX, CD, or Radio without changing the same volume level. After setting the Sound Check to OFF, connecting the cable through the docking station line-out (with or without power) improves the volume just a slightly more versus connecting the cable to the headphone outlet on the iPod. The main culprit was just the Sound Check option.
