Engine Check light

I was working on my 09 E350 for past month, replacing tranny fluid, and replace all the vacuum lines and PCV valve hoses. Then when I got everything back together, my Engine light came on. I had my battery disconnected prior to working on the car, but now I have a light, I wonder if there's a way to clear the light since I don't have a OBD reader since my car is still on jack stand til I finish my control arms.

The only way to clear it is with a scanner. They're not that expensive, an Autel AP200 will scan all MB subsystems and is only $50. There's no other way to clear the light aside from a code reader. If it's an intermittent light, the code might clear on it's own once the condition is no longer present but as you can't tell what the code is, you don't know if it will go away or not. Otherwise you could go to an auto parts store and have the code read and sometimes they'll let you borrow it and you can clear the code on your own, most places won't clear codes for you. If you wanted a really cheap scanner that only did OBDII codes and not MB specific codes, then a BAFX ELM327 reader will also work for $23. But I think that's a waste because it won't tell you if you have a bad steering angle sensor or wheel speed sensor or a bunch of other errors that only a scanner that reads MB specific codes will tell you.

Buy an iCarsoft OBDII scanner, it will pay for itself shortly.

You can not work on W211 without using a scanner to gain insight... the big deal is not CEL, it's the ECU that sensed something's wrong.

You could reset or ignore the dash light but the engine won't work right until repaired.

Word on this! I learned importance of the scanner really quickly when I started to repair my S211. Without it, you're basically shooting in the dark when trying to figure out why something is not working.
