Wheel Squeak After Brake Work

Hi,

First post and like many I'm looking for advice.

A few weeks ago I changed the front and rear brakes on my W211. Both the discs (rotors) and pads. All went OK. Bedded them in and whilst the rear pads did a bit of smoking for a couple of trips all seemed OK. Stopping is good though maybe a little sharp. What is troubling me is that once the brakes wam up, I'm getting a constant squeak. Can't tell if its front or rear, but if I touch the brakes it stops, then starts again when I take my foot off. It also seems to be affected if i turn the wheel just a fraction to either side, as in it stops.

I'm very much an amateur mechanic, and I'm concerned I've made some basic error - but before taking it to a professional and being made to look stupid, I thought I'd ask here. Any ideas?

Thanks all.

CRC Disc Brake Quiet. You may need to apply this between the back of the pad and the caliper. It helps prevent the brake pad from vibrating and causing noise.

Or something is not installed properly. What kind of pads are you using? Did you put the rear brake pad retainer spring in correctly?

Hi thanks for the advice - I didn't put anything between the back of the pads and the callipers - will recheck that and also the retainer springs. Appreciate your advice.

100% why. Make sure you grease the backing plate, and basically anything that touches the pad hardware itself on the caliper side.

you have to clean lubricate and grease everything, the vibrations crease noise, the grease holds it together. Any generic brake grease does the job. I happen to use ATE Plastilube

Did you replace the rear parking brake shoes in the rear rotors? When I replaced the rotors on mine, one of the shoe pads disintegrated and broke in half. Made lots of noise til I was able to replace the shoes and got a new spring kit for the rear parking brake. And as others said, you normally lubricate everything including the glide pins on the calipers.

Thanks for your reply. Will go recheck and lube everything as suggested. Sounds like my lack of experience is to blame here! Still thats how you learn.

knowing which wheel the squealing is coming from would be helpful, you can roll down the windows to hear it better.

what brake pads are you using?

Sounds to me like your calipers aren't releasing completely thus causing the pads to remain in very slight contact with the rotor. Did you clean everything and apply grease as needed/warranted? Not sure if your car has slider pins on the calipers, but if they are present they need to be clean and slick.
