2007 Auxiliary Battery

I'm hoping someone can set me straight, as I've searched the threads here and on YouTube and have conflicting information.

I have a 2007 E350 wagon (165,000 mi), and yesterday it went into limp mode: It won't shift out of low gear. I've read that it could be the auxiliary battery, but I've also read that mine might not have an auxiliary battery. I've looked under the cabin air cleaner and popped the panel on the driver's side dash. No battery.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

You are making progress already!

You have figured your car only has one battery but it still goes into limp-mode.

Typically this involves preserving worst things from happening. You'll need to use an MB scanner to retrieve live list of specific faults.

"Creader Elite is the top popular unit, Autel, Foxwell... so long it is compatible with your chassis.

A hand-full of reasons can help your car seriously act-up. Pls tell us the mileage (got it:165kMi) and any service/repair history you are aware of.

++++
ISM on short list.

Thanks

One battery. That’s what I was afraid of. I,made an appointment with my local shop but they can't get it in for a week.

No error codes. It just stopped shifting into higher gears. I guess I'll find out next week.

Thanks!

What kind of scanner did you use? It would be a transmission error code and a regular code scanner won't pick it up unless you have one that can read MB specific codes. If it's still in limp mode there should be some error code. Is it a 4matic? 4matic has the connector that can wick up transmission fluid. Otherwise for the 7 speed rwd, probably the conductor plate. You can send it out to get it rebuilt so it wouldn't need to be recoded. Cheaper than a new one.

Ah...I misspoke. There is no error message displayed. I have not used a scanner.
My repair shop mentioned the conductor plate, so we'll find out when they take the car on Monday.

Thanks for the advice. I'm hoping to keep my old girl going. It's a great vehicle.

Get a scanner. Cheapest way to diagnose it. Autel AP200 is under $50 on Amazon now. Transmission errors normally won't trigger a CEL but the scanner will pick up the transmission errors, the cheap ones at Autozone, Advance Auto etc won't read the MB specific codes.
