I brought my car in this morning for service and the SBC recall, they referred to an additional "campaign" regarding a drain plug under the hood that is faulty, it allows water to come into the passenger footwell...there is a gromet that needs to be replaced. The recall number is #2004070020

Ps. i noticed a 2005 e320 with the old style center armrest....in the showroom but it had the new air vents...

Do you know if this applies to 2004 units as well?

the armrest was changed a couple months into production it seems..

Dropped off 03 for service and they told me (very quick discussion – no details) that there was another recall that involved swapping out the grommets to the sunroof because water can leak into the interior. I’ll get more info when I pick it up.

took in my '04 and all that applied was the brakes. he said that mine may have had the grommet from before. Go figure. It is an AC grommet, not related to the roof.

When I had my car in last week, they also did this other campaign regarding the drain grommet. Sorry, I forgot to mention it.

I was told that this update does not apply to my car (2004). So, it appears to be a 2003 issue.

The additional recall #2004070020 is an extension of the previous recall #2003010009 MAR04 - Wheelhouse Water Drain Modification.

2003010009 affected 2,640 vehicles: A012944 to A097120, A018015 to A097170
2004070020 – 55,399 vehicles: A097249 to A341994, X097696 to X110399

I brought in my '03 replacement car in today... and they did the SBC update... and checked and my car was not "affected" by the drain plug recall. I guess '03's were affected.. but the NAV cars and maybe "early 04's?" so they did get the new plug?

Would be interested to hear if any of the NAV replacement cars needed that plug addressed?
