Trading E 500 for CLS 500

Ordered a CLS 500 a couple of weeks ago to replace my 04 E 500. Any other E owners making the move?

I need to see it in the flesh but I'm heading that way or to a new S when it comes out in the spring.

I saw the CLS at one of the MB "events". Maybe its that it was an awful shade of green, but I thought it not attractive at all. To me, it was one of theose cases where the pictures are better than the reality. I don't think it'd be a significant enough change for me to move from my E500 (05)(but then again, I've only had the E since the end of August.

I hadn't paid much attention to the CLS, other than to look at the pretty pictures, but this thread motivated me to look at its specs.

Not much reason to trade unless you really, really like the style, or want a Jaguar-like quantity of wood facing you, or just have to have the very latest thang. All valid reasons, but not for me.

Same here. But I am compare with E55 as well. If I undersatnd correctly the CLS 500 is about $75K and for another $10K I can have E55... But $30K more with my E500 I might just get myself another toys :-)

Thanks!

My reason for trading was for the most part the looks as well as just wanting the latest design. If it should come in and I don't like the looks the demand will be so great that the dealer can move it and I stay with the E.

Our move as well. Either an S430 or a CLS500..but will have to run my hands around the car to make the real decision..

From what I have read the CLS is more a coupe with four doors, the rear seats are not 'full' rear seats. Is this correct?

Surely the E-class is a vehicle more for the family man who requires comfort for both front and rear pasengers. The CLS on the other hand is more for the 'CL' brigade that want the option of four doors for the occassional rear passengers.

I personally prefer the looks of either the SL or CL, sadly though there is no space for our 'pooch'

Good luck with your trade in,

John

I agree with your comments. The CLS doesn't appear to have as much room in the rear and clearly seats only 4 instead of the 5 in the E. Since I have had my 2 E 500's (nav replacement) I have probably had someone in the backseat twice so the lack of space isn't an issue. Maybe since I turn 60 this year I want more of a coupe look...

I don't understand where the CLS 500 fits in the MB line up.

It's not a coupe, but looks like one? Why wouldn't you just get the new S class when it comes out? Any pics of the new S?

The S is just too big.. I have been used to driving smaller cars such as the Lexus SC and don't want anything larger than an E. My partner has a 2004 S that I drive sometimes and it is nowhere near as much fun to drive as the E 500.

As the saying goes, "Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger"

“A fat four-door coupé? Crazy idea… but it might just work.” So Top Gear magazine says of the distinctly unconventional Mercedes CLS driven for the first time in the current issue. "

rtriley45 knows what he likes and good luck to him, it has a distintive design and like he says "I want more of a coupe look.."

Go for it
John

Like the others I have not yet seen one of these cars in person as of yet, but will say I very much like what I see... I'm having a hard time getting past those headlights and the "cord" of wood on the dash, but for the most part its a very beautiful car.... Would I trade my E500 for one???? No way... At least not now as I'm still in love with it. I won't go into the coupe vs sedan debate, in fact I really don't care what they decide to market it as. All I know is it has four doors and four bucket seats and looks great....and it would work as our family ride, no problem....
Good luck with your decision, I'm sure it will pan-out just fine for you....

I don't think I would swap my E for the CLS. I thought the cabin will be more spacious than the E but apparently it'll be about the same, which was a dissapointment. I was hoping it'll be like a step in between the E and the S.

I like how it looks though

Yes, price wise but that's about it

If it offered more leg room for rear passengers and slightly extra width then I would definitely consider it.
