Exhaust tips

Anyone use them? I saw some on a '05 E500 today at the House of Imports in Buena Park. The car came with the appearance package, but the dealer installed exhaust tips, a Cl style grill with the star in the center, and Lorinser Rims.

What kind of exhaust tips were they: sinlge or dual tip? Also, were they coming from under the car and had a hole at the bottom or were they attached just to the muffler and curving from under the bumper? Did it look good, any pictures?

I have exhaust tips and they look good from the back but it looks a little weird from the side. I think the best option is to cut the bumper (see CalBenzo's post about his set-up).

I think all of the exhaust tips for the e class look like an after-thought (terrible)....Unless you have the AMG style rear bumper with the cut-outs for the tips or have done the cut-outs on the stock or appearance style bumper.

Exhaust tips

I have a E55 bumper cover due this week for my E500 wagon, my original was damaged......found new AMG exhaust tips, cut from a SL55 on ebay for $125.00 for both....muffler shop will weld to existing system.....should look perfect. I know the jury is out on this set-up since it is not a REAL E55!!! I will post pictures and accept criticism.

Why would anybody have a problem with your mod???? I see no difference between what your doing and say me ordering an AMG package from the factory when I bought my ride... Its not an e55 and so what??? The package looks great. If I were to add tips I would be doing it exacly the way your doing it... Goodluck with your mod and don't forget pic's.

Thanks, HELL ONA HARLEY for the vote of confidence...I was referring to a thread with a number of posts a few weeks ago...of course I can't locate it now, where the input was very negative on "mods" such as I plan...I believe these mods keep our cars exciting and have been going on since the Model T.

Yea, I remember that thread.... I think most folks were more negative about the AMG badging on a mercedes that was not.... (something I would NEVER do).

My personal view has always been (and always will be)..... If you like the modification then go for it.

I do not usually voice negative comments, but I agree totally with Hell-ona-Yamaha-ha. In my very personal opinion the twin exhaust tips (or any other) only look nice with the E55 rear valance. However if YOU like the tips then good luck to you and I respect your choice.

Good luck with all your modifications,
John

I would love to change the exhaust/tips but only if I change to the AMG bumper or have a bodyshop notch out the standard bumper for me. I don't care too much for the tips hanging below the bumper.

I think I know which tips you may be talking about, I saw a set of single tips at the house of imports parts dept. they are designed to go directly onto the stock tips. Since they are shorter in length and shaped at an angle, I think they would look good without having to cut the bumper or get a new bumper with the cutouts. I belive they were asking $399 bucks for the set.

I agree with HoH- Those tips look fake. One fellow at my gym has added just about every single piece of chrome.trim, tip, lights to his E-320 and frankly it looks silly.

I like the ones on the new appearance package. I wonder if we could just buy the rear valance that has the cutouts and then upgrade to the oval tips.

You can add an entire exhaust system, installed, for a little over $400 that sounds great. If you just want tips, you can find nice tips for around $50-$60 each.

Check here.
