Hey all, i just recently bought my first Mercedes, a 2008 E350, and am trying to learn to diy more. I just replaced my serpentine belt but in the process leaned on this return line and partially broke the connector on the reservoir. From what i gathered on another thread, if the reservoir is brittle i should probably just replace the whole thing right? The hose still sits in there but doesnt have a good seal so i didnt know if i could use something to re-secure it or just need to get a new reservoir. Also wasnt sure if i should avoid driving it or can maybe put some electrical tape on there to help hold it in place and it would be fine for the moment. I dont know too much about the cooling system or how it’s pressurized so appreciate any input. Thanks!

Replace the reservoir. I paid $40 for a new one. The two stickers on mine cost me another $22. ND-photo.nl has a good Youtube video on it.

Be advised the bleed line part number is for the M113 V8 engine; yours may be different so use the link to the parts catalog and look up your car.

I did something similar. The reservoirs don't last forever either and commonly leak at the seals where the 2 halves come together. Depending on other maintenance performed, maybe use it as an excuse to swap out the reservoir, cap, hoses and coolant. FCP Euro and Rock auto have everything you'd need. Worst case is its good maintenance.
Appreciate the input from you both! I got a new reservoir, didn’t order new hoses but will check them as well. This might be a dumb question but I got one of those syringe like fluid extractors, can I reuse the coolant or need to dispose of it and add new fluid? I believe coolant was flushed recently so originally thought it would be fine to put back in. I also saw on a couple comments on the videos I watched mentioning bleeding the system but the video linked just said to run it. Any steps you’d do after adding the fluid back or should be good to run?

If fluid is clean and fresh, reuse. No bleeding required for this task.

Coolant should be refreshed every 250k km (155k miles) or 15 years

thanks! Pulling out the coolant it seems like theres dirt in the reservoir. Not sure how big of a concern that is for the rest of the coolant in the system. It also seems more of a dark green than blue so trying to determine if its the correct coolant or not
