E350Flint Grey

I just ordered an E350 Wagon in Flint Grey with Ash but unfortunately I have never seen an actual car in that color. Can someone please post a picture of their Flint Grey car. If I don't like the color, I still have time to change it since my car won't be built until sometime in Feb. I don't get to pick it up until March. I am an American living in Germany and am getting a US Spec car. One of the first E350 with US specs I'm guessing. I will be able to test drive a Euro E350 next month and will post my experience. This is my first post and this will be my first Mercedes. I currently have a 92 BMW 525iT (wagon) and had a 95 BMW 740iL (which rocked). Please let me know what you think of this color!

Welcome to this forum, e350. This will be the color of my next car, (if the next one will be a MB....)

Per your request....These pictures don't really do the color justice, but it will give you an idea.

I have to say this color doesn't seem to popular on these boards, at least have not seen many people say they had it, but I love it. It does definatly look much different between daytime light and night time light.

Happy choosing and congrats on the new car!

BlueRascal,
Thanks for the pics...now for a few questions--how does the ash look with Flint? Do you have Black Birdseye Maple? Do you receive complements or does the car look kinda boring? I like the color a lot, but having had a black car, I just don't want to go too dark again (hard to keep clean). For some reason I just haven't fallen in love with any particular color. Most of the cars I see here (Germany) are Silver, Black or Pewter. The other colors I am considering (I have time to change it) is Granite Grey or Platinum Blue. I really like the Ash interior but I'm not sure how it will look with the Granite. I am huge on color combos looking right. I don't want Charcoal...too dark.

No problem.. Let see (aka long post to follow)

1-I think the Ash int. compliments the Flint paint perfectly especially with the Black Maple trim. I have always loved the Stone/Burl interior combo, I just think of it as more "traditional" interior color combo. I would call the Ash/Black Maple interior combo has a "modern" elegance and feel, When you throw in those stunning white gauges and subtle chrome accents on the Black Maple trim and you have a very modern, sleek looking interior which I think suited the Grey Exterior much finer than the more traditional Stone/Burl combo. I get nothing but compliments on the color combo from MB drivers and non-MB drivers alike.

2-My previous car was Black/Charcoal Int. (not a MB) and same as you I found that the Black paint was hard work to maintain.

3-We have similar taste in colors. My initial decision was between Granite Grey and Flint Grey. I would describe the difference between the two colors Flint Grey as more of a Steel/Silver Grey. Where as the Granite grey is a Bluish Grey much more of a light blue colored hue to the paint in comparison to the Flint.(imo) At night, looking at both colors under the dealers night-time fluorescent street lights the difference between Flint and Granite was difficult to make out. The next morning when I came to start negotiating the car the sun light was much more helpful with my decision.
Ultimately it's all up to your personal preference; I went with my gut feeling.

Here are some more pictures for you.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi e350,
How easy would it be to take back a European vehicle when you return to the US?

I am an avid reader of this forum and in my very own personal opinion US customers are very short changed when it comes to buying such a nice vehicle. I think a standard thing that would be really appreciated in the US would be SBC Hold, but a search of this forum reveals any number of missing standard features, and I think the only 'extra' I have seen on US vehicles is the 'side' repeater light??

What a geat pity I could not buy a RHD European spec vehicle from the US!!! The poor US dollar is certainly having a hard time.

Good luck with your purchase and you MUST go with the colour of YOUR\wife's choice

Regards,
John

a cool overcast morning in Torquay (humidity 90%)

BR,
Your car is beautiful. I am beginning to like the color very much. I went to a large dealer here and they did not have one in stock, but I'll keep looking. The Ash looks stunning with the Flint, and your right, the white and silver complement the interior nicely. I saw the Platinum Blue today (wife was with me) and she is trying to get me to go that way. I'll have to find a Flint one to show here in person. It would be great to see them side by side to make my final decision. As one of the other members suggested, you can't go wrong if you get the color your wife likes.

I'll answer the other members question as well. As far as taking a European spec car back to the states. We really can't do that because of the expense of converting it to US specs. Not sure of the details, but I don't think it would be worth it. Also, it appeares to me that I can buy a US version in US $$ much cheaper than if I were to buy it in Euros. I am able to get a US spec car here for 10% less than Retail, and Tax Free. (I have to pay taxes when I get back to the States, depending on which State I register it in.)
