MB german engineers have a sick sense of humor- rant- try jumpstart from engine bay

Has anyone try to jumpstart a w211 E350 2008 when they cant get into the trunk? Apparently the jump point in the engine bay is a positive terminal at the back of the fuse box. Have any of these muthafffng factory engineers try to get a jumper cable clamp on that deeply recess nut with no extended lug point to attach to??????

I tried for over 10 minutes and could not find a way to clamp onto that goddamn nut!!!!!!! Those damn germans have a sick sense of humor.

Luckily I came to senses and used manual key from the fob to open the trunk for acces to battery.

Positive jump point is next to a cabin air filter, plenty of room to attach the cable. Negative post is on front of the filter.

I dont believe this is there on the face lift models. They got rid of the secondary battery and there is no post there as far as Im aware.

The one in the fusebox is not accessible by any sort of standard cable.

I end up taking the passenger side floor board apart and jumping from the battery cable junction block there in order to get the trunk to pop (I dont have a valet key so cant open the trunk manually)

Only thru google search found the advice to put positive lead on the nut at back of fuse box.

On this car a 2008 e350 lhd usa car for the life of me could not find any other jump point.

Has nothing to do with the secondary battery. I have facelift 2006 w/o SBC.

Worst case is if you have to use the bolt you described, attach a socket and extension to it (making sure that socket setup doesn't come into contact with anything else) then use that as the point to connect your jumper cables.

I stand corrected. And have to agree with OP that that is stupid design to not have a proper jumping point under the hood.

I’d have to look for the video, but I saw something I had never seen before the other day for someone trying to get into a car with a dead battery. The gentleman was first going to try and get a lead on the alternator because this would connect to the battery But since they could not reach the alternator from underneath, they just sent 12 V in through the fog light and the 12 V in the fog light gave the battery enough power to open the door.

for those of us that watch a lot of mechanical videos and what not, this was truly the first time I had seen this.

This was on a Mercedes of the same vintage
