Trunk Lockout

2008 MB E350 4matic

situation:

Dead Battery
Can't access trunk to jump
Owners Manual clearly states (page 419) jump is done via main battery in trunk under shelf right hand (passenger) side

Ok gang. Battery is dead as a doornail. Stored car over winter and started periodically ~ once a month-started fine but last interval was closer to 2 months after some extremely cold weather in Northeast U.S.
Currently will not start, fob won't even turn when inserted into ignition port; have metal key to trunk; inserted metal key into trunk lock slot; goes in completely HOWEVER WILL NOT TURN whatsoever!

Need advice on my next move/option to unlock trunk

ANY AND ALL ADVICE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

Thanks in advance gang.

Sorry, I got nothing if your key does not turn when you remove from fob and try directly in the trunk.

From the engine bay?

There’s a small fuse box looking thing on the left side near the windscreen that that has a red + 12 printed on it you can clip jumpers to that and black to the body and run it for a few minutes. I looked in mine. It’s above the dip stick under a vent cover. Size of a match box
if you could get power you could use the electric release?

When attaching the jumper cables do NOT have the key fob in the ignition switch per Mercedes tech bulletin. Having the key fob in the ignition when attaching jumper cables or installing new battery is a good way to blow fuses and/or damage modules.

The connection under the hood is on the driver's side in my W210.

Start working on freeing up that trunk lock to prevent this from occurring again.

That happened to me. I had to open the hood and open the fuse box. I used a small battery charger hooked to something metal and the relay way in the back. Gave it enough juice to pop the trunk open. It was a utube video

I'm curious why power would have something to do with unlocking manually with the key? Is there an electronic motor in the key mechanism that assists in the turning of the key?

My key would turn in the lock that’s why I had to get a jump from the fuse box

Okay - I had the same problem with my 2007 E350 but the fix is simple. Look below the Mercedes Badge (beneath the lip) where you put the key and you'll see a handle which should be pointing downwards. If it is pointing up then gently pull it down until it stops.

Put your metal key into the key hole and make sure that it is verticle - that is the neutral position. All you need to do then is sqeeze the "handle" and that will manually open your boot/trunk.

If you turn the key to the right, that is locking the boot release handle for Valet Parking. Turning it to the left locks the boot release.
