Exclamation Tire Pressure Monitor System

Is there an MB dealer option that you can have the TPMS system installed on your car after delivery? If not, is there a decent aftermarket setup for a W211?

Thanks Jeff

Sorry I can't help with you questions, but I can tell you that the TPMS is dead on accurate in my experience. Worth getting, if you can find a way. Just my opinion.

I like it too, although I havent figured out why you have to "Re activate" the system after you add air or have a flat repaired. It should be able to read the air pressure no matter what. I can understand re activating them if you rotate the tires, because the pressure readouts would need to be "reassigned" to their new location in the diaplay.

The TPMS can easily be added after delivery of the vehicle, but it will be a pricey thing to add (one expensive task is to obtain the four sensors for the wheels, then have the tires removed to mount the sensors in the wheels, and replace the tires and rebalance the set).

And, the dealership would probably not do it, so you'd have to go to someone who does OEM mods.

If you'd like to check into aftermarket alternatives, I believe there are some supplied by tirerack that should work.

Is there more to adding the TPMS than getting the sensors installed? I've got a '01 CL and am getting new wheels and tires soon, figured this is as good an opportunity as any. What's involved basically?

Thanks,

My dealer insists there is no MB after purchase add-on for this feature. Anyone have a part number?

at auto-zone for $10, there are these cute little valve stem covers which pop up green when the tire is at either 32 or 36 psi. not superaccurate but it will show if there is a slow leak and obviously not easy to see while the car is rolling. a small drawback. another is that if the plastic top is punctured by a rock air will leak out. but still...

run harness to each wheel well, install antenna in each wheel well, program Cluster for TPMS, install sensors in each wheel, note sensor code and enter in DAS system to recoginize the sensor. Sensors have builtin batteries which last approx 5 years.

Sounds like a job for... dum da dum... SOMEONE ELSE!

I'll leave it to the dealership if I decide to do it. Thanks for the response though!

If you're in NY and are close to the NYC area, you can probably give Ai Design a call and see if they would do it for you.

As usual Scorchie is spot on. In the UK dealers will say it cannot be done, but a firm in the Home Counties fit this option, and a number of others that dealers say cannot be done.

It is simply a question of how 'deep' your wallet is.

The tyre pressure monitor is an excellent option that gives peace of mind, especially if the 'other half' is the main driver.

Good luck,
John
