AMG Package Armrest

I don't like the arm rest on my 05 E500 AMG packgage. Do they make a retrofit kit to make it padded?

thanks..

are you referring to the slide center console? I was told that was a mid year production change but I could be wrong.

Center Console

Yes, center console is sliding wood. Very uncomfortable for your elbow on long trips.

We can retrofit the original folding top console to your car. We were planning on offering this as a package, but what happened was Mercedes discontinued the part number which was the "whole console" kit, and now only sells it as separate parts. So, we only really do this in the SF Bay Area right now, and it depends on how many more we get.

If you're really interested, send me e-mail and we'll get you a quote. I would need to know what color your interior is.

I've been planning on getting an '06 E500 in Dec 05 or Jan 06, in part for weather and location reasons (long story) and in part in the hopes that the console would be be fixed for '06. (And yes, I do mean "fixed." I didn't believe the posts I was reading here describing the change to the center console, so I went I checked it out for myself -- what a POS. Listen up, MBUSA, your current E-class center console is NOT an arm rest, and no $60k car should be wihtout an armrest! And I should not have to invest more $ buying more MB parts to fix your screw-up! Get this fixed!)

In any case, Scorchie, what's the current cost of your retrofit for a charcoal interior E500? You can email me at jhh@jhhlaw.net.

With the way the dollar goes, I doubt any price given today will be close in one year's time... but I'll check.

What makes all this especially interesting is that, according to scorchie in another post, only we lucky duckies in North America get the new-style sliding-door console. The obvious reason for DCX to make the change is saving money - does anyone actually prefer the new style over the old? - so why didn't DCX make the change worldwide? Maybe DCX does careful market research to support their de-contenting program and deletes or cheapens only what they think they can get away with in a particular market.

That was an Australian! I must say I do prefer the cupholders in the new console. But the phone mounting has got to go.
