Lowered just the front end of my E500 today. Was REAL easy, taking about 15 minutes and eight small washers. Front end came down about 1 inch. Still can't do the rear on the E without airmatic adjustment, but this about evens out the front and rear tire/fender gap. More detail and some pictures on the E55 site. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to reduce the gap up front. It really is so easy, and you can adjust depending on how many washers, or how low you adjust the bracket. I live in PQ. There really is no "kit" to buy. I used the OEM brackets, and just added 4 small washers to each side. Very easy, just 30 minutes and about $1.00 worth of washers. Still trying to figure out the rear on the E. I don't think there is a way, other than adjusting the airmatic. If anyone has any other ideas, pls post. Here is a pretty fuzzy picture of the washers installed on the bracket...

Great job EPower. Any chance you can do a DIY for this? I can't tell in the pics WHERE the brackets are.. and where the washers are. Too fuzzy. Did you have to remove a tire to access it?

I'll try a few pictures to get you to where the brackets are. No, you don't have to remove the front tires, but it would be easier if you did. I was going to remove them, but as I was jacking the car up I realized there was plenty of room to get my hands inside the wheelwell with the car raised just to the point where the tire was almost off the ground. That way you don't have to hassle with removing and installing the tires.

Since I don't have my car yet, the best here is an armchair QB version from what I've seen on other threads and the MB Learning site. There is a sensor for each front wheel, as you've shown, plus one sensor for the back wheels. The rear sensor is mounted on the roll bar, somewhere in the middle of the chassis. It appears you have to remove one (I'm not sure which) of the rear tires or jack it up to get to it. Past that, I'd like to hear from anyone who has actually tried it.

I have no desire to "slam" my car - just take out the US-spec adjustment. Do you think the rear needs adjustment, or OK from the factory?

 

Just use the factory jack in your trunk, it works great. As for the washers, I am not sure what exact size, but they can't be too big otherwise they won't fit inside the channel.
As for the intake mods, it works great! I am still waiting for the guys at Powerchips to finish their programming to remove the top speed limiter on my car because they have also re-tuned the ECU for more response, and I will get the ECU remapped for both at the same time. The intake mods will be even more effective when the ECU is again retuned.
Someone else posted about the rear being on the rear roll (I think they meant sway) bar. I have removed the rear wheel, but can't find anything. I am going to put it up on a rack at a buddy's shop this week to take a look, but I have heard that the rear does not have the same type of adjustment bracket as the front on the E series...too bad.

That's a great idea to lower the front end. Wish I had thought of it. On my car, I lowered the rear end by simply moving the position of the sensor. It's held in by 2 screws. Remove the screws, and notch out the area so that you can slide the sensor down about 1/4". Rescrew the sensor in. The computer thinks the car is sitting higher than it really is, and will lower. Make sure you reset the computer after moving the sensor by raising the car via shift mountain button, and then lowering back. If not done, the car will not lower. Hope this helps. Yea, really anywhere. Home Depot, etc., or you could go to a car shop...nothing special.

Thanks to tbone for giving us the scoop on the rear sensor. There is only one, located on the rear sway bar. I even found a description and good diagram of it on the mbusalearning web site I think all of us have looked in the past couple of weeks. Here is the exact reference to the diagram...

Lowered the rear end today...man what a difference! With the 275's on the rear and lowered about 1.25 inches, I think it looks much better. All it took was about 30 minutes and a Dremel tool. tbone was right, just a little movement in the sensor lowers the car quite a bit. I bet I slotted and moved the sensor bracket down just over 1/8 inch and got about an inch an a half. I initially slotted it out about 1/4 inch, but it resulted in nearly 2 inches of drop. With my 275's I was afraid of it rubbing at speed. The nice thing is that once you have Dremel'd out the slots, you can adjust the bracket up and down the slot, subsequently adjusting the ride height of your car. It only takes about 5 minutes to loosen the two 10mm nuts, re-position the bracket and retighten the nuts. BE SURE TO RAISE AND LOWER THE CAR EVERY TIME YOU ADJUST THE BRACKET, as I found it necessary to reset the ride height. Will post some pics in the morning.
Bottom line is this, for the cost of a few washers and maybe a total of 1.5 hours of your time, even someone who has very little mechanical experience can lower your E to where it looks much more natural of a ride. Not the stock 4x4 look, or the slammed down look either...

 

Heh lowering airmatic cars has always been easy. About time someone figured it out for themselves! I wonder if people can still justify a $2k or even $1k lowering module.

Another note for people trying it out. You have to constantly adjust the height of the car. Meaning, when you lower the front, the rear will raise. When you lower the rear, the front will raise. When you lower the left, the right will raise, etc.

It takes a while to fine tune it and get it all even. I suggest a ruler.
