Transmission Leak

I took my car in for the service b and I told them that I smelled something funny when I had the heater on... They confirmed it and found a leak in the transmission... Just though to give you guys the heads up... They fixed the problem and everything is ok now... and I'm back on the road...

This kind of stuff is good to know. It would be even better if we knew what year and engine your car had. Also, how many miles did it have when it happened. What did the repair invoice say failed?

If you can provide this information, that that would be great,

Steve

As I was taking my 2003 E320, 13000 miles, in for the brake recall a little over a month ago, I noticed a drop of oil on the floor of the garage which I thought was transmission fluid. I mentioned to the service department and I was right. They said a seal on the side of transmission (where a connector is at) was leaking and it was not an uncommon problem. It was fixed in no time at all so I assume it was a very minor repair. No problems since.

Same problem here………… not once but twice.

5 months after getting the brand new car (April 2004) and 2 months after first repair (aprox.). Both times MB repaired it under warranty.

First they changed the seal and the bottom part of the transmission box.
Second time they change the seal, bottom of transmission box, and a plug (don´t know what this plug does)

Now everything is running smooth and enjoying the ride.

Trans fluid service ticket

ah yeah...
Just returned from having the same thing fixed. I noticed over the past few days an oily residue on the garage floor. When taking it in today, they stated this has been very common problem. Anyways all is fixed and my car is once again happy.
See below for service ticket comments:

CUSTOMER STATES TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING
TRANS CONDUIT LEAKING
REPLACE TRANS CONDUIT AND TOP OFF FLUID TO CORRECT

PARTS:
140-991-00-55 LOCK PIN
001-989-21-03-10 TRANS FLUID
140-270-02-50-28 BUSHING
211-524-28-30 PANELLING

Hope this helps. They said the panel was soaked with fluid. (Not good I guess). Glad I caught in time. BTW, also had the SBC RECODING CAMPAIGN 2004050014 performed.

I can't notice any major differences in the way the CDI drives. I'm not too sure if this would have affected it in any way.
Best Regards
Jay

Just took my car in for Flex B service and they did the following as well:

CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION LEAK
56 REPLACED TRANS CONNECTOR

1 203-540-00-53 SPACER
2 001-989-21-03-10 TRANS FLUID
1 140-991-00-55 LOCK PIN

I hadn't noticed that there was any leak, so my thinking is that they were looking for something! Seems the electrical plug that sits on top was leaking.

Interesting, the also did this when they were rotating the tire:

LUGNUT ARE RUSTY
56 REPLACED LUGBOLTs

20 211-401-03-70

Again, I hadn't noticed anything wrong with the lugbolts - but then again I never really look! Can't understand why all 20 were rusty - especially since the new rims were only put on the car last August by the dealer and nothing was said at that time!

Think they’re cashing in for a little extra change from MBUSA or simply consciences?

Crap!! I went and looked under my car after you guys posted this and guess what?? I see some drops. One question for you guys. With all of the covers under there, how can i check to see where the leak is coming from and how bad it is? Is it soaking the underside and just some dripping through? I am supposed to get it serviced in 1000 miles, so I will get it looked at. I guess I'd rather the tranny leak than the motor. I do love the seven speed and I hope its just the switch that others have mentioned.

I hadn't thought of them cashing in!

My sense from dealing with them is that they're actually pretty straight-up - the service advisor had actually mentioned the rust when she was walking around my car when I dropped it off - so it must have been somewhat obvious (it didn't dawn on me until I picked up the car what she had said that morning - I thought I heard something about rust but wasn't paying attention - plus she and the other advisor were talking about how much the love the color and the CL grille, so I wasn't hearing the rust part).

The transmission leak is something I think they're looking for - one of those "unannounced" things that isn't a recal but more like a known problem.

I wish my service department was nearly as up to date on the "unwritten" issues and appreciated the same love for the Benzos that yours show. I guess as long as I love the way it looks is all that matters.

I've never had good experiences at dealerships and am somewhat jaded, so I keep waiting for something to happen that will will restore my lack of faith, but so far the folks at Mercedes Benz of Westwood have been nothing but tops - Diane is my third SA in the 3 1/2 years that I've had the car and she's was great, as were the previous two!

I never wait long, everyone is always attentive and friendly, the place is beautiful, the rental car folks are wonderful - I know I should be knocking on wood for saying this, but they really deserve kudos so far!!

NICE!! sounds like you found a dealer that is truly representing Mercedes Benz's level of quality. I just wish I lived close enough to Westwood to try them out.

I am considering trying some different dealerships in the San Diego area (even though the closest is over 20 miles away!!). Does anyone have great experiences with Hoehn Mercedes in Carlsbad?? Or even with Mercedes of San Diego??

I guess I should start a new thread for this. OK, I will!
