SRS malfunction
My SRS light came on this AM. Message appears on the display, “SRS malfunction drive to workstation”. How serious is this. Is it something that can wait a day or two??? This is on a 2005 E320

Sometimes messages are just caused by boot errors as all the systems come on-line. I've had SRS Malfunction a couple times that did not re-appear after a restart. Once, early in the car's life, it was a failure and they replaced an electronic module. If it clears after a restart, forget it. If it stays lit or it's a real emergency, like no brakes, you need to see the dealer. SRS malfunction means that if you need the airbags, you may not have them. Each time the car is started it goes through a full self-test.

Personally I would not be asking here, I would be off to the dealer.
SRS
The restraint systems are faulty. The airbags or belt tensioners may be triggered unintentionally or not at all in the event of an accident.
That was taken word for word from the manual. It might be a faulty light. Your decision.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've had that message at least 4-5 times. Shut the car down and restart and if that doesn't fix it - bring the car in.
Car is in the shop today for Service D - the ECU flash - the sunroof closing issue and a couple of other things.
I was asking about the low speed "bucking" and the service advisor (not my regular one) said "it's normal - it's the torque converter and they all do it"
If I were keeping the car I'd make a fuss about it but since the lease is almost up I don't really care anymore.
The car is sooo pretty for a sedan. Too bad the electronics are so buggy.

had that message....SRS malfunction visit workshop...last year.
It appears randomly for a while and when u restart it doesn't always come on.....but it persisted for 1-2 days. The dealer changed battery but within a week it was back again........it has not reappeared again.....it it does i would take it to dealer.
My malfunction now is....."consumer electronics switched off"...this seems to stay with me for a while well about 14 months since i had parking sensors installed....doesn't bother me since....everything works...just a silly message.that means someone has installed parking sensors using light switch which may have triggered a sensor....who knows....

6500 miles, first problem
SRS message "drive to workshop" and red SRS lamp in cluster illuminated constantly.
Earlier in same day, "passenger airbag off" message displayed, then went out.

I had that message and a lady immediately called me through the car, I guess TeleAid telling me to step out as the airbags may and can explode anytime. I was advised not to drive it and she sent a tow truck in 30 mins to have it hauled away. I got it back 1 week later with all new SRS modules...
This all happened within the first 6 hours of me having the car..Great luck!

SRS malfunction affects parking sensors?!
I also had SRS Malfunction a couple times that did not re-appear after a restart for a while, say 1,000 miles. I also lost my parking sensors if SRS Malfunction pops up. Anyone have the same problem?

Same warning this week. Dealer said not to delay and bring it in immediately (a C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan was waiting for me to use). It turns out that there was an electical short in the steering column causing the fault.
They also seemingly fixed the memory for the dynamic drive so that it stays on. Headlight sensor was adjusted to come on under "dusk" conditions; malfunctioning horn trumpet was replaced; new blades and arm adjustments to resolve wiper chatter; and a new leather seat cover was ordered to correct "dye transfer" on the current cover.
Does anyone know whether the dealer can program the headlights to turn on when the wipers are engaged?
Finally, grease marks were added to the fabric on the driver's door threshold at no additional cost.

Dealer said mine was also inside the steering column.
They did not get to grease my Ash door thresholds because of the masking tape I used to mask it off, driver and passenger, as well as the A pillar interior.
The dealer goobered up my door thresholds, A-pillars, glovebox door, and dashboard last time.
Through the masking I discovered a trick to cleaning the map pockets in the doors, ball up a handful of masking tape and dip it in the map pocket to "magnet" up the dirt. Better than a dirty vacuum hose to smudge the fabric.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
This one persists...
dealer has tried wiring harness, steering column repair, seat belt latches. Still won't go off. Stays on constantly. 2005 E55, BTW. Anyone seen any other fixes?

I have the problem, I just haven't brought it in yet.
The engine & drivetrain engineers at Daimler must be chomping at the bit to beat the asses of the electronics guys. The cars are excellent in every way except for the low-rent Malaysian-sweatshop-grade electronics -- which don't even do anything especially complex, making their constant failures that much more pathetic and unforgivable. Sad, because the car is otherwise just so fantastic to drive...

cause of SRS warning
I got this message when the passenger seat occupancy sensor failed. 10 days in the workshop to sort it out and get the part...
I have seen this appear before on these forums as a cause of the SRS warning.

Well I just got this warning on my E55. I hope it's a quick fix, but it doesn't really sound like it after reading above. It did not go away with a restart. Service guy says the airbags will not depoly on their own. However, they may not work in a crash. Hey MB, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Well, they must have seen this problem a few times because they were ready for it. In and out in a day. Have to get the paperwork but it was some sort of spring. I think he said "clock spring", but I could be in left field on this one.
#22
It may very well have been the clock spring. That's a flat, coiled up piece of metal that lets your steering wheel maintain electrical connections while still being able to rotate freely. It's actually pretty common on all vehicles for this to eventually fail, although not so common on a new car.

I just got the error message yesterday. I called and they had me drop the car off at the shop this morning. Hopefully it's an easy fix also.
This is the second time in a month that my car has been in the shop. About 4 weeks ago my rear view became seperated from the mount!
