Passenger Seatbelt Warning Light

Hey everyone, quick question. I know that the '05 E class has a new feature now that reminds you to buckle your seat belt, but every once in a while it comes when I have mine buckled, and there is nothing in the passenger seat. Any one experience this or have any solutions?

No, nothing there, nothing had been there. I understand if a heavy box or a large package had been there, it may trip the sensor.

warning light

I have a similar problem. After passenger leaves car, light will stay on. I believe its too sensitive also, anything I lay on passenger seat will set it off. I need to engage the passenger seat belt to turn it off..I will take it in to service.

The passenger seat has a very sensative sensor in it. Comes on most of the time with my briefcase on it. Sometimes even comes on if I'm leaning my hand on the seat.
I asked the folks at the dealership of the sensativity could be adjusted. They said that they could not adjust the sensativity. Some on this board have posted that the dealer could disable it, but I seriously doubt that they would do that and risk any liability.
Good luck, and post anything you find out to this thread as a number of folks have brought this up.

My 05 E320's seat chime was beeping with nothing on the seat. I went to my dealer told my service advisor how to turn it off (info from this board) and he did. My dealer said there is weight limit adjustment...

Mine does it too and it is more likely to occur on cold days. I haven't been to the dealer about it yet.

happened to me last nite. cold, and yes i had put my coat on the front seat. also, looks like it reruns the beeping cycle once you get down below the 'door-locking' speed and go back over it.

Had the same problem. I posted a thread about it. The seatbelt light and chime would come on when the passenger got out of the seat and would not go off. The airbag off light comes on but the seatbelt light and chime does not go away. Took it to the dealer and they said that the sensor needed to be adjusted, took no more than an hour or so to do.

Hi there, new memeber here and new E-class owner. My 05 does the same thing. I have noticed that If you wait until you have put the car in drive before you sit your item in the seat, it seems to keep it from beeping. I did bring this up to my dealer (HBL in Tysons Corner, VA) and was told by my service advisor that was the design of the sensor, and there was NOTHING to be done about it. Will have to search the threads for the solution. I knew that MB wouldn't let Toyota and the other manufacturers best them on something so simple, I had a 04 Solara that only turned the airbag on if the item in the seat was heavier than 20 lbs.

Great to find this forum, makes being an MB owner so much easier!
