All I can tell you is that I traded a '03 ML320 in for a new '05 ML350 and the difference in performance is substantial! I love the 350 engine! 3000 miles with no problems. I drove my service managers ML500 for a day (loaner) and while it had more power it was not all that much more than the 350 IMO.

The engine in an ML350 is not the same as in the E350. The ML350 has a 3.7 liter version of the three valve V6 that's in the E320.
The E350 has a brand new 3.5 liter, four valve rail injected V6. Mercedes have gone to a lot of trouble to make the new CGI engine sound better than the course sounding M112 engines in the E320 and ML350.
