Are MB Dealers offering a discount off MSRP for the new E-Class Sedan?
Does anyone have an idea how much Dealers are discounting the new E-Class sedan off MSRP? My MB salesman was receptive to reducing the price somewhat. I'm wondering how close to invoice they will discount!

They should if they are not doing it now. The economy is so bad even with the low interest rates they should take less. When times are good MB had no reservations taking your green.

I think max that a dealer could give you off MSRP (with options) is 2%....but that is not guaranteed at all. It would depend on your dealer's location, number of cars on the lot and number of cars on order.
The current mark up stands at 7.45%. However, the dealer has to pay $600 for advertising on any car sold + freight $875.
Example:E 550
Invoice = 52,395 (with no options)
Advertising surcharge $600
Freight = $875
True Invoice = $53,870
MSRP = $56,300
Thus, the true mark up is (56300-53870)/53870= 4.51% or $2430
The mark up on options is constant and is 7.45%. It is generally a lot harder to persuade the dealer to discount options or packages.
Overall, I do not think that E 2010 MSRP or options will be discounted in corporate any time soon.
Here is the reason why:
The car is made in Germany. E550 with Sport and equivalent of P1 package prices out at about 78,000 Euros on www.mercedes-benz.de
USD stands at 1.40775 per Euro as of this morning. This exchange rate makes E 550 with SP + P1 package sell for $110,000 in Europe.

My Dealer is already offering me $2,500 off plus an additional $2,000 off for EAB. I still feel he has room to give as it was too easy to get him to discount.

Are you talking about E 2010 (W212) or 2009 model?
Could you tell us who is your dealer? The reason I ask is that I placed my order for E 550 just the other day, but my deposit is refundable. If I could get the discount that you are talking about I will go with your dealer.

That sounds incredible. Bay Area dealers are sticking to the MSRP story. I doubt they will budge. Their pain is so deep they would rather not sell cars than make less than MSRP. Without the profit boost from new models sold at MSRP they will go bankrupt. They are barely hanging on with used car profits and service. High margin new car sales is their only chance of survival. Germany is cutting back production to equal demand. So I seriously doubt there will be much competition. The car is already marked down on MSRP from last year. My sense of it is that M-B will go back to an economic model of producing fewer cars at higher margin until the market shows the ability to absorb higher sales. They are not going to build for inventory like the old days.

1) The MSRP you list does not include the freight (see MBUSA). Therefore you adding it back in is doubling up in a way and your true market figure is incorrect.
2) Advertising fee is a voluntary program that dealers can sign up to but don't have to.
3) Pricing in Eurpoe has nothing to do with pricing in the US; neither does the exchange rate at the moment.

OK, I did a search on Google and found an MB Dealer website that would help to explain the EAB as simply as possible. Click on this link:http://www.mblarchmont.com/portal/si...gnextrefresh=1

Dealers never have profit on saling cars, they get profit on service, so than more cars sold without profit than more profit taken on service of the cars. My dealer (Bay Area Oakland) is willing give me invoice for W212.

I agree, that seems high for a bread and butter product like the E350, probably due to the fact that it's a new product on the market.
I'd give it a few short months: I just negotiated an '09 750Li for my folks and came out $1,800 over invoice and they are paying the final lease payment of $1,097 for the month of August. I do realize that '10 F01/02 7-series are just around the corner and will be here by September or so, but I think this was a decent deal for a very new product.
As people have been saying these last 24 months: it's the economy stupid, and I'm sure MB USA will be providing marketing support for the W212 E-class in due time.
