Lane Departure Feature

I was behind an S550 the other which had distronic and my radar detector wouldn't stop going off. The thing I was wondering about at that point is doesn't the lane departure feature use radar as well? Also, doesn't the blind spot also use radar as well? So I guess you wouldn't be able to use a radar detectors with these vehicles or what? Just crossed my mind the other day.

Yeah there was an article in Car and Driver about how the Lane Departure systems will set your radar detector off and those radar detectors around you. The system itself is prone to false detections as well due to things such as the automatic door sensors at grocery stores. Makes you wonder if it will even work correctly with the Parktronic system lol.

My valentine one goes off all the time when I come up on an Audi SUV, not sure what the model is but it definitely has that feature.

Wow. Very interesting. Yes, auto doors use K and Ka bands now. Before I used to only pick off X band on the radar detectors from the doors. Now it falls alarms more and more due to the auto doors using more K and Ka now (I don't know what the frequencies are exactly). I have the X band even muted unless the signal goes to 2 bars (max is 3).

Followed a link a few days ago to a plug & play radar detector for the W212 that used the factory radar waves to detect speed traps. The write-up stated that the display showed arrows to indicate the fore or aft location. If I can find I'll post.

There is a discussion on this topic on the 2007+ S-class forum regarding the impact of the distronic plus on radar detectors.

Well, looking on a bright side... law enforcement should be glad that MB (and other car manufacturers) are utilizing more and more radar-using features on their vehicles. By having more and more cars mess with radar detectors, people will be less inclined to use them (or don't take them as seriously anymore due to all the false alerts), then cops can write speeders more tickets!

...notice I said on A bright side... it's not bright for speeders...

Ya, lol. I have been picking up more and more interference over the years especially with the more widespread implementation of radar systems across cars such as MB, BMW, Audi, Volvo, and such. It's getting to be a pain in the ****. Before I used to never get false K and Ka alerts, only X band, so I would just mute the X band. Now on a daily basis, I get false K and Ka readings.

Anyone in the forum done the midcity add-on? How does it affect operation of existing radar devices and warranty?
