C|Net CarTech Review of the E550 Coupe

Brian Cooley and the gang reviewed the E550 Coupe. There is both a written and a video review. This review is different because it focuses on the tech inside the car as opposed to the driving dynamics. Enjoy...

Review???

What is it with these reviewers? This guy makes a point of saying he couldn't drive far because the "seats were so hard." This really detracts from his review and his credibility. Why the hyperbole? "2-3 blocks before the tears were running down his face." Yea, right--what an idiot.

Look, MB doesn't make seats using medieval rack torture technology, and I'm pretty sure that the E550 coupe is at least as comfy as a Sentra. These reviewers lose all credibility when they insult our intelligence with this kind of ridiculous exaggeration. I hope his *** heals quickly from the terrible 3 blocks in the E550.

It's a gorgeous car, stunning lines and very reasonable performance for a non-AMG sedan.

Indeed, the lines are stunning.

.... Stunning can be used in a negative context correct?

Hehe.

I do like the seats ALOT though, haven't driven in them for long periods of time, so can't comment on the long-term comfort.

I've sat in the E Coupe and I don't recall the seats being too firm. I can't imagine Mercedes releasing a car with uncomfortable seats.

Impressions of seat comfort vary from rear to rear. The size of the rear can be a factor.

True, but this guy had "tears" in his eyes from the seats with "boards" in them. Tears in his eyes? Really?? A grown man weeping from the pain experienced by sitting in a $60-70,000 Mercedes?? And he only drove three blocks! Imagine what would have happened had he driven it, gulp, a mile or two...jaws of life, emergency room, amputation to get him out of the exquisitely leather bound MB torture rack. Poor soul--he should have sued.

If his a** is that uniquely sensitive, then I would expect to hear the same comments from virtually ever car he has tested, which is not the case.

Maybe if he opened his legs a little and let his ***** have some room he wouldn't be crying, lol

I agree though, the coupe seats are narrower than the sedan seats from what I've seen. And there is quite a difference.

You may find this hard to believe but it is true: I cancelled my order for a E550 coupe after I finally drove one. The seats are rock hard, too narrow and terribly uncomfortable and I am 6 feet and quite thin. Try the E550 sedan seats back to back with the coupe and you will see what I mean. I was very very disappointed with the seats and also the "C" dash parts. The coupe is not a mini E sedan. It is a cross between the E and C platform for E money. It may be closer to the E and MB may argue passionately that it is an E. But my **** (literally and figuratively) analysis gives it a C+ or E-. Either way it is not at the same level as an E sedan. I cannot argue with the stunning looks but that is not enough at this price.

Is it possible that the reviewer is (somewhat) correct, considering how few of you have actually driven in a new E-class to test the seats?

Hmm, interesting. Perhaps it is true that the seats suck, comfort wise. I'll have to drive one. The C interior is indeed disconcerting.
