Should I take this deal?

2010 E350 Black, Special Order Brown Leather interior, P1, AMG Wheels, 4MATIC, Sport Package (car looks identical to E550). New York: 39 months at $869 no money down, tax in payment, sign and drive. I was going to get a 2010 Range Rover Sport at $975, but I saw this car on the showroom floor. Any opinions? I had a S550 Designo, I hope I like the new E class.

I got yesterday the deal for e350 RWD, Metallic Steel grey, P2, regular sport package $0 (I don't like this fancy $750 steering wheel ).
39 months, 15K a year, $750 including tax, Due at sign in - bank fee, first payment and DMV fees. I think it's a good deal, may be not the best....
The car will be here in Brooklyn next weekend. I had a dilemma to buy used 2007 S class or lease new E. E won...I don't wanna have headache with repair bills for used S. My current E350 is a nice car, still almost new with 18K miles on it, but if I have a chance to drive new - why not )
Good luck.

Sounds high to me. I have a 550 with an msrp of $66,000 and I put a total of $3000 out of pocket (in NY) and my payment is 933. I would think a 350 with an msrp of $8-10k less should be in the $7's. How much off msrp did you get? Should be in the 5-6000 range...

Just a question: it's been a while since my lease inception, but it used to be that in NY tax had to be paid up front. Has that changed in the last three years?

Thanks.

Either you have wrong info or making mistake. I'm leasing at least from 2000 and never paid sales tax upfront. Always included in my payment.

Thanks for the reply but this is indeed bizarro world.

I could have sworn when I did my lease research that NYS required that tax be paid upfront.

See this link: http://www.leaseguide.com/lease09.htm. I've found others as well.

I'm not arguing with you, just find this very strange.

Thanks again.

It is really strange....it says NY requires tax upfront...so..hmm..it means I brake the law everytime I get my new car ))

I have never paid the tax upfront, it is definitely not illegal. One way or another the tax is being paid, either by you in cash or by the leasing company for which you reimburse them through payments...

I have leased many cars, and I have never put the tax upfront, as if something happens to the car (stolen, wrecked, etc) you are out the money. I pay the bank fee upfront, and the first month's payment. That is usually a major factor in monthly payment comparison's. I'm getting $3K off sticker, I think that's pretty good. I've called around, and it seems this deal is very fair.

Hmm hard to tell if it is a good deal... 1st tell me what the MSRP is on that car and what the negotiated sales price is. My car is the same but not special order brown leather (how much is that?), no AMG wheels ($750).

Special interior is around $1,575 plus $750 for wheels/steering wheel. Special order charge of $250. I got around $2,700 off the car, and a credit of $499 towards my current lease. It's a really good deal I think, and my salesman is a friend. I'm torn...need to make sure I'll like the E for 39 months (I had an S class for 7 years). I'm thinking the Range Rover Sport may be a better move, I just don't know.

You just touched on the two of three important info whether buying or leasing a car:

1. MSRP
2. selling price
3. Interest rate/money factor

When you disclosed these three numbers, then a person can tell you it's a good deal or not. All other numbers are nowhere near as important as these three above.

I can't agree with you about leasing.
When I lease my car and don't wanna buy it at the end of my lease - the only thing I care is the payment....I don't care what is MSRP and for how much they sell my car to the bank, which finances the deal as long as my payment is low. I agree - those things are connected, but as long as the payments is good ..I don't care..

You are both right. When leasing and you don't care about purchasing at the maturity, then payment is the bottom line. But, in order to get the best payment, you need to know Sales Price, Money Factor, and Residual. But don't forget dealers have discounts and programs, and they make money on the financing. Many different ways to manipulate the payment.

You are half right, I am similar in that I only care how much out of pocket, how much per month for how long w/ how many miles.

BUT the major factor is MSRP. Are we talking about a $55k car or a $65k car? That is a HUGE difference in lease payment.

And since at the end of the day residual and MF are FIXED for the most part by MB, then the only other important part is selling price. The reason being is that otherwise it is too hard to discern the difference between 12k or 15k, 24 or 39 months etc.

When the dealer says I'm giving you $4k or $5k off sticker, then we know if it is in line....

Taurian- $3000 off sticker is very LOW, you should be closer to $4500-5500. If you can't get that from your dealer then PM me...

So if my math is correct 72 payments of $730 = $52,560 plus the $2k down so $54,560 total? You pay taxes up front? What was the actual sales price?

MSRP was $69,XXX and I got almost $20k off. My trade covered the taxes. So I finacned about $47,000.

I guess there arent very good deals on the ones left. A friend of my wifes just bought a 2009 E350 with 14,000 demo miles from the dealer and paid $44,00. Crazy! She still got ripped off but makes me feel good about my deal.

Don't you think that what your suggesting he should get off MSRP is extremely high for a brand new car?

This seems like a good deal to me especially considering you aren't putting anything down. The Chestnut Brown interior is very nice I think you will like it, and since it's Special Order your car will be pretty unique. The only question I have is will you be happy with the power of a 350 vs. a 550?

I just got a quote for a forum member on a 350 from my local dealer. MSRP $58xxx, selling price $52xxx. It was approx $6k off sticker for a 39month lease.

So I would say $3k off is pricey...
